Elizabeth Olsen Says MCU Fans Can Expect More Scarlet Witch at SXSW 2023
Jul 8, 2023
Elizabeth Olsen seemingly confirmed the Scarlet Witch’s return at SXSW 2023 on Saturday.
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, the Wanda Maximoff/Elizabeth Olsen stans showed up en masse and caused complete chaos at an online event on YouTube following the premiere of the first episode of HBO Max’s new seven-episode limited series Love & Death, which stars Olsen as axe murderer Candy Montgomery and Jesse Plemons as her lover Allan Gore, at Austin’s annual South by Southwest conference. Although other panel discussions were scheduled throughout Saturday, about five hours before Olsen and other members of the Love & Death cast and crew were meant to begin, “Mother” stans started to flood the comments section to discuss their favorite Olsen roles, the future of the Scarlet Witch in the MCU, how they were “Lizzie Gay,” and more, as they eagerly awaited the actress’s appearance on screen (which was delayed, leading someone to say the actress was hospitalized, causing a level of chaos that would make Master Pandemonium proud).
In the end, the approximately 800 stans ability to wait five hours paid off when the interviewer decided to ask Olsen at the end of the Love & Death discussion about her future as Scarlet Witch in the MCU. When author and reporter Wajahat Ali asked Olsen if we can expect to see Wanda come back from wherever she went off to, at first, she succinctly said, “Oh yeah!” However, when asked for clarification, the actress backed off on the forcefulness of her statement.

While appearing at Comfest Con 2023, Olsen was also questioned about her status as the Scarlet Witch, whose status as alive or dead was left unclear at the end of 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want, I think I would be spoiling something,” the actress said in response to the question. “Because Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character, and then he does it. So… I don’t know if I can share, but I just want to come back!”
Although, it’s worth noting that in the past, Olsen has discussed wanting to explore the “Children’s Crusade” storyline.
