Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU Return as Scarlet Witch All But Confirmed By Kevin Feige

Nov 11, 2024

The will-she-won’t-she return of Scarlet Witch to the MCU seems to have been unexpectedly confirmed by Kevin Feige. Ever since her supposed demise in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the fate of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff has been debated among Marvel fans and seesawed from suggestions that the character is not dead to “confirmations” that she is most sincerely dead. Now, it looks as though Feige may have just given the most clear indication that Scarlet Witch will be returning to the MCU…and it is a matter of when, not if.

Ahead of Saturday’s D23 Brazil panel, Feige spoke to Omelete about a variety of subjects, including the chance of Miles Morales making an appearance in a live-action Marvel movie, and the question of whether fans will see Olsen back in the fold anytime soon led to an answer that was very much open to interpretation, but was a lot more positive than the usual no comment. Feige said:

All I can say is that we’re excited to find out when and how she can come back.

The latest comments come just a week after the WandaVision spin-off Agatha All Along concluded with the minor disappointment of not mentioning Wanda in its finale. While the opening episode of the show seemed to seal Wanda’s fate categorically, her body turning up in Westview was ambiguous enough that it now seems almost throwaway in the grand scheme of things.

Will Scarlet Witch Return in Avengers: Doomsday?

Although there have been several rumors about where Olsen could make her return to the MCU, the notion that the next Avengers movie will find Wanda back in action has gained a lot of traction since the announcement of Doctor Doom’s imminent arrival.

Fans of Marvel Comics are already well aware that Doctor Doom and Scarlet Witch have something of a history together, and when a rumor began circulating that this relationship will feature in the upcoming conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, it did not take much for people to accept this idea as having more substantial footing than some of the other rumors that preceded it. While we are still no closer to discovering how accurate this turns out to be, Feige’s latest comments have certainly continued to stoke the ever-burning fire under the very large, and very dedicated, Wanda fan base.

Meanwhile, OIsen herself has been positive about a possible return to the role. Although she seems to have moved onto other things in the meantime, earlier this year she made it clear that she would always have a place for Wanda in her schedule. She said:

“It’s a character that I love going back to when there’s a way to use her well… if there’s a good way to use her, I’m always happy to come back.”

Rumors a Scarlet Witch solo movie is in development have continued to come and go for two years now, and while it has not been confirmed officially, there are several slots waiting to be filled in Marvel Studio’s schedule where it could fit. If Scarlet Witch is about to hook up with Doctor Doom, then it would make sense that there could be a story to be told about just how this union came to be.
