The Six Triple Eight

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, The Six Triple Eight is a war drama about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-black and all-female battalion, in World War II. Based on a 2019 WWII History magazine article by Kevin M. Hymel, the film chronicles the true story of the unique contribution the war’s only Women’s Army Corps unit of color provided to the war effort. Confronted with constant discrimination and immersed in an unfamiliar country in the midst of a massive global conflict, the battalion was tasked with delivering a three-year backlog of mail to American soldiers thousands of miles from home.

With only six months to complete the assignment in a time before the internet and GPS, the 855 brave and talented women were responsible for delivering 17 million pieces of mail, which helped bring much-needed hope to the front lines at a time when the United States needed it the most. The Six Triple Eight is streaming on Dec. 20.
