Everything We Know About ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Dec 26, 2024

Ever since Avengers: Endgame concluded the MCU’s Infinity Saga in 2019, many fans have felt that subsequent films in the cinematic world have lacked the same type of cohesive narrative films of the prior eleven years executed so successfully. To make matters worse, the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors’ personal life spelled clear trouble for Marvel’s future projects involving Kang the Conqueror. Thankfully, Loki managed to end the threat of Kang as the MCU’s next major villain rather epically. However, when Disney finally moved on from Majors, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was ultimately scrapped, many fans were concerned about the direction Marvel planned to take the MCU in the future. Given they had been laying the groundwork for Kang the Conqueror for quite a while, shifting gears felt like an unprepared afterthought.
That being said, ever since it was announced that Avengers: Doomsday would be replacing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Robert Downey Jr. would be playing Dr. Victor von Doom, excitement from the Marvel fanbase has been reignited in a way that hasn’t been seen since the Infinity Saga. While plenty of fans remain skeptical of the upcoming projects, it would appear that Marvel is attempting to recalibrate the larger MCU story, which bodes well for fans. With Doctor Doom now at the center of it all, it would seem Downey Jr. will once again be leading the charge in the MCU. Except this time, he’ll be on the other side. Slated for release in 2026, there aren’t many available details surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, but here’s what we know so far.
What Will ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Be About?

Your changes have been saved

After directing four other MCU films, including Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Anthony and Joe Russo will return behind the camera for Avengers: Doomsday. While there’s currently no official plot for the film yet, the multiverse will undoubtedly play a part in how the story comes together. Now entrenched in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, Doctor Doom will likely be introduced to audiences in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set to hit theaters in July 2025.
It’s already been confirmed that he’s not the villain in the film, but he might show up in an end credit scene or two, given that has been the MCU’s style in the past. How and why Doctor Doom will make his way to Earth 616 and/or other universes in the MCU remains a mystery, and fans are unlikely to receive any clues regarding the villain until other films in the Multiverse Saga hit theaters next year. However, given how calculated and thought-out the forthcoming film appears to be, fans should be hopeful the plot will inevitably be a good one.
Who Are the Cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

As many fans already know, Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Doctor Doom, which was dramatically announced at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July 2024. Chris Evans is confirmed to be returning to the MCU, but his specific role hasn’t been disclosed. Many believe he’ll play Nomad, which would fit into the Multiverse Saga quite well given the character is a disillusioned Steve Rogers variant. Plus, Anthony Mackie is slated to be in the film as Captain America, seeing as he officially took over the role in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so Evans’ return only makes sense as a variant of some sort.
It was recently announced that Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter. Having died during the MCU’s Infinity Saga, she’ll likely be from another universe, which means audiences might get a chance to see Captain Carter don that Union Jack shield. The Fantastic Four characters are confirmed to be part of Avengers: Doomsday, including Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach is Ben Grimm/The Thing, which seemingly confirms Doctor Doom will be introduced in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Tom Holland will once again reprise his role as Spider-Man before the release of Spider-Man 4, which is set to hit theaters shortly after Doomsday in 2026. Finally, Benedict Cumberbatch is also confirmed to return as the ever-witty Doctor Strange, which means it’s likely the events of Avengers: Doomsday could somehow be tied to the way Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with the memory of Peter Parker erased in the minds of everyone who ever knew him.
