Frank Grillo Confirms Roles for Himself & Ron Perlman in DCU Series Creature Commandos?
Jul 21, 2023
Has Marvel actor and The Purge: Anarchy star Frank Grillo just confirmed roles for himself and Hellboy star Ron Perlman in the DCU’s upcoming Creature Commandos animated series? Speculation that the pair may be joining James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU began earlier this week when the pair were seen at the premiere of DC Studios’ Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Now, Grillo has taken to social media to reveal that audiences could soon see him and Perlman together again soon…

“Me and my guy [Ron Perlman] we did a little film together awhile back,” Grillo said in a post he shared to his Instagram story. “Could this be two? Hmmmmmmmmmm.”
This is not the first time that Grillo has fueled speculation of joining the Creature Commandos, with the actor sharing posts and responding to DC Studios co-chief James Gunn whenever the antihero team has been mentioned. “The only constant in life is #change. Somethings coming???” the action star said back in February alongside an image of the DC logo.
Grillo and Perlman being a part of Creature Commandos certainly lines up with what we know about the project so far. “Starting production; almost done casting,” Gunn said last month. Gunn has also since revealed that whoever voices the Creature Commandos in the animated series will also portray them in live action. Thus, it would make perfect sense to make Frank Grillo and Ron Perlman two of those team members.
So, while this is all currently unconfirmed, it would be a smart bet that both Frank Grillo and Ron Perlman are part of Creature Commandos and the DCU. And, if you want to go even further, put Grillo down as Rick Flag, Sr. And Perlman down as Eric Frankenstein.

Who Are the Creature Commandos?
DC Comics
Created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick back in 1980, Creature Commandos are a mismatched team of military superhumans. Led by the human soldier Rick Flag, Sr., the team members who will make their debut in the Gods and Monsters chapter in the DC Universe are Bride of Frankenstein, Dr. Nina Mazursky, Eric Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorus, and Weasel. While the actors behind most of the roles have yet to be revealed, The Suicide Squad stars Sean Gunn and Viola Davis will reprise their roles as Weasel and Amanda Waller, respectively.
“Creature Commandos is an animated series, I’ve written all the episodes, something we’re going to do that’s a little bit different at DC is gonna have characters move into animation, out of animation, usually having the same actor play their voice as who plays them in live-action,” James Gunn revealed when outlining the DCU slate.
The first chapter of the DCU will begin with the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, followed by the superhero team-up flick The Authority, a Batman project titled The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing reboot, a Wonder Woman prequel series titled Paradise Lost, the animated series Creature Commandos, a series centered on Amanda Waller, a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns, and a series about Booster Gold.
