Israeli Government Calls Out Gigi Hadid Amid Hamas War – The Hollywood Reporter
Oct 17, 2023
The Israeli government has criticized half-Palestinian model Gigi Hadid for her support of the Palestinian cause after the terrorist organization Hamas launched deadly attacks on southern Israel 10 days ago.
“Have you been sleeping this past week? Or are you just fine turning a blind eye to Jewish babies being butchered in their homes? Your silence has been very clear about where you stand. We see you,” the Israeli government said Sunday on its official Instagram account with a post that included an apparent image of a bloodied kids room with toys on the floor, writing, “If you don’t condemn this, your words mean nothing.”
Hadid drew the sharp rebuke from the Israeli government after her latest Instagram post that addressed the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza by arguing that support for Palestinians was not antisemitic or support for Hamas.
“There is nothing Jewish about the Israeli government’s treatment of Palestinians. Condemning the Israeli government is not antisemitic and supporting Palestinians is not supporting Hamas,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
Israel’s official Instagram account also mocked Hadid’s original post with a mirror image of her meme: “There is nothing valiant about Hamas’ massacre of Israelis. Condemning Hamas for what it is (ISIS) is not anti-Palestine and supporting Israelis in their fight against barbaric terrorists is the right thing to do.”
The Hollywood Reporter reached out to representatives for Hadid, but she was not available to comment on her Instagram post.
The Hamas attacks were followed by Israel declaring a formal war against the terrorist group, with the escalating retaliation leading to a rising death toll in Gaza, southern Israel and the region. In an earlier Oct. 10 Instagram post, Hadid had condemned attacks on innocent people in the immediate wake of the Hamas attacks on Israeli soil.
“The terrorizing of innocent people is not in alignment with & does not do any good for the ‘Free Palestine’ movement,” Hadid said in a lengthy post on her Instagram account. Hadid, whose father, Mohamed Hadid, is a Palestinian immigrant and practicing Muslim, added she has a “deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation.”
