James Gunn Tells DCU Fans Not To Believe Rumors from Social Media ‘Scoopers’
Oct 8, 2024
The DCU is only just getting started, and already the franchise is being bombarded with rumors about possible projects that are supposedly being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, Gunn has been more than happy to play gatekeeper on social media to quell some of the more elaborate claims about movies that will be joining confirmed projects such as Superman, The Brave & The Bold, and Swamp Thing. In his latest debunking session, Gunn also offered some advice to those looking to work out which rumors to believe – in short, don’t.
A new rumor recently claimed that a Mr Freeze movie is being worked on by DC Studios alongside the confirmed Bane and Deathstroke project. However, according to one half of the CEO team helming Warner Bros.’s DC output, fans shouldn’t get too attached to the idea of a chill heading to Gotham anytime soon. Gunn commented on Threads, “It’s not a bad idea, so I wouldn’t say never but no there’s no truth to it at all.”
In addition to this, Gunn also offered some advice when it comes to who they should and shouldn’t believe about upcoming DC projects. He added:
If it’s fun for you to follow the unknowns, follow them, but don’t trust anything completely until you hear it from me or Peter (who is not online despite me seeing him tagged in stuff.)
What New Projects Have Been Confirmed for the DCU?
A long while has passed since James Gunn first revealed the roster of shows and movies that would make up the new DCU’s “Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters”, and at the time made a caveat that there were other projects still to be announced. Recently, some of these new additions have been confirmed, with a promise of even more to come.
It was announced earlier in the year that a live action Teen Titans movie will be heading into production soon, with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow scribe Ana Nogueira set to write the movie. While there have been no details about how this project will fit into the big picture of the DCU, it is one of several pieces that are being carefully put into place by Gunn and Safran to ensure that this interconnected DC universe does not suffer the same disjointed fate as the last one.

Another recent addition to the franchise is a Bane and Deathstroke movie, something that no one really saw coming. This film will reportedly put the two iconic Batman villains into their own feature, potentially offering both characters another shot at redemption for previous failings. Bane originally made his big screen debut in Batman & Robin – let’s move along quickly – but found greater success when being played by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy-concluding The Dark Knight Rises. Deathstroke was most recently played by Joe Manganiello in Zack Snyder’s extended Justice League cut. That movie ended with a tease that would, in another universe – literally – have seen Ben Affleck’s Batman taking on the villain in his own solo movie.
Earlier this week, Gunn made another surprise announcement when unveiling Dynamic Duo, a hybrid puppet/CGI animated movie that will focus on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, two of the characters to take on the mantel of Robin in DC Comics. Gunn did not reveal exactly when this movie will hit cinemas, but it is just another exciting addition to a rapidly growing list of highly anticipated projects coming into the world in the coming years.
