Jason Statham & Jet Li’s Action Thriller ‘War’ Finds Success on Free Streaming
May 24, 2025
Action movie icon Jason Statham
goes to war with a fellow martial arts legend in this panned action thriller from the time of yore, 2007. The Stath has seen major success over the last few years, with both The Beekeeper and A Working Man landing the action star some well-deserved box office wins, as well as (mostly) solid reviews. However, his mid-2000s effort, War, which sees Statham exchange punches with Jet Li
suffered a different fate after being mauled by critics. Clearly, this doesn’t concern audiences, as War
is now climbing the free streaming charts.
Directed by Philip G. Atwell in his directorial debut and featuring fight scenes choreographed by the late, great Corey Yuen of The Transporter fame, War stars Jason Statham as a bruised FBI agent on the hunt for a mysterious assassin, Jet Li’s Rogue, after his partner is killed. Sadly, War was savaged by critics upon release and holds a score of just 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus reading, “Jet Li and Jason Statham find themselves on opposing sides in the immensely boring War, which is full of clichés but short on action.”

The action icon takes a surprisingly sinister turn in this action movie from director Guy Ritchie.
War is now available to stream on the free platform Tubi
, where it holds eighth position in the streamer’s top 10 alongside the likes of Mark Wahlberg’s Mile 22, the action sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Bruce Willis’ Tears of the Sun. You can check out the official synopsis for War below.
“After his partner and family are killed, FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) becomes obsessed with revenge on an assassin named Rogue (Jet Li). Rogue’s return sparks a violent war between rival Asian mobsters Chang (John Lone) and Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi), while the ultimate showdown between Crawford and Rogue reveals the truth.”
‘War’ Is Well Worth Checking Out Despite the Savage Reviews
Lionsgate
While War perhaps does not live up to the well-renowned talents of both Jason Statham and Jet Li, it does offer genre fans the delight of seeing the pair come to blows, as well as boasting a killer twist that casts a new light on the two main characters and adversaries. For fans of Statham, Li, and action, it’s certainly worth checking out.
Jason Statham continues to fly the flag for gloriously no-nonsense action movies. This year, The Stath took the lead in the Sylvester Stallone-scripted and David Ayer directed A Working Man. The action thriller has been another big hit for the action star at both the box office and on streaming, and you can check out the official synopsis below.
“Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.”
Jason Statham shows no signs of slowing down following the release of A Working Man. The actor and martial artist is all set to lead Plane director Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny, and will join forces with The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays director Timo Tjahjanto for The Beekeeper 2, which has now been picked up for distibution by Amazon MGM Studios.
