Jennifer Jason Leigh, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Randall Park & More Join Vanessa Kirby In Upcoming Netflix Thriller

May 23, 2024

Back in March, news broke that Vanessa Kirby would reunite with her “The Crown” director Benjamin Caron for the new Netflix pic “Night Always Comes.”  Now we know who’ll join the actress onscreen, and it’s quite the ensemble.

Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zack Gottsagen, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park, and Michael Kelly will join Kirby in the upcoming film a thriller centered on America’s current housing crisis. Based on Willy Vlautin‘s novel of the same name, Kirby stars as a Portland, Oregan woman who risks it all in a 24-hour period to try and keep a roof over her head.
Here’s an official logline for “Night Always Comes,” courtesy of Netflix:
Risking everything to secure a future for herself and her brother, Lynette sets out on a dangerous odyssey in Portland; confronting her own dark past over one propulsive night.
Additionally, here’s an official synopsis for Vlautin’s 2021 novel, courtesy of its publisher, Harper:
Barely thirty, Lynette is exhausted. Saddled with bad credit and juggling multiple jobs, some illegally, she’s been diligently working to buy the house she lives in with her mother and developmentally disabled brother Kenny. Portland’s housing prices have nearly quadrupled in fifteen years, and the owner is giving them a good deal. Lynette knows it’s their last best chance to own their own home—and obtain the security they’ve never had. While she has enough for the down payment, she needs her mother to cover the rest of the asking price. But a week before they’re set to sign the loan papers, her mother gets cold feet and reneges on her promise, pushing Lynette to her limits to find the money they need. Set over two days and two nights, ‘The Night Always Comes’ follows Lynette’s frantic search—an odyssey of hope and anguish that will bring her face to face with greedy rich men and ambitious hustlers, those benefiting and those left behind by a city in the throes of a transformative boom. As her desperation builds and her pleas for help go unanswered, Lynette makes a dangerous choice that sets her on a precarious, frenzied spiral. In trying to save her family’s future, she is plunged into the darkness of her past and forced to confront the reality of her life.
Besides starring, Kirby co-produces “Night Always Comes” with Lauren Dark through Aluna Entertainment. Other producers on the film include Caron and Jodie Caron through Square Eyed Pictures, and Gary Levinsohn and Billy Hines through H2L Media Group. Executive producers include Vlautin and Ryan Bartecki.  Sarah Conradt adapts Vlautin’s novel for the screen.
Best known for his TV work on the likes of “The Crown” and Tony Gilroy‘s Disney+ series “Andor,” Caron made his feature directorial debut last year with the Apple TV+ thriller “Sharper.”  It’s worth noting that “Sharper” shares a similar ensemble cast to “Night Always Comes”: a motley mix of veteran heavy-hitters and relative newcomers.
Kirby will shoot “Night Always Comes” before she becomes Susan Storm/The Inivisble Woman in Marvel‘s upcoming “The Fantastic Four,” so expect Caron’s latest to hit Netflix sometime in 2025. And with that cast (Julia Fox! Stephan James!), expect “Night Always Come” to be one of the streamer’s most anticipated releases next year.
