Julianne Moore & Nicholas Galitzine Star In The Upcoming Starz Period Drama
Nov 16, 2023
Starz has had its fair share of historical dramas in its original programming lineup. Of course, there’s the network’s popular adaptations of “Outlander” and “Dangerous Liaisons.” But Starz also has original series based on aristocratic figures, like “Becoming Elizabeth” and “The Serpent Queen.” Here’s another to join that list: “Mary & George,” a new series that charts the rise to power of the cunning Mary Viller, Countess Of Buckingham and her son, George.

And Starz has some serious star power for this scheming, seductive, and social-climbing duo: Julianne Moore and Nicholas Galitzine. The upcoming series follows Moore’s Mary as she molds Galitzine’s George to seduce King James I and become his all-powerful lover. Thanks to their designs, the Villier rose from humble beginnings to become some of the English court’s wealthiest and most influential players. But grooming the naïve George into the snake his mother wants him to become takes a lot more work than Mary realizes.
Along with Moore and Galitzine, “Mary & George” also stars Nicola Walker, Niamh Algar, Trine Dyrholm, Sean Gilder, Adrian Rawlins, and Mark O’Halloran. Others in the ensemble cast include Laurie Davidson, Samuel Blenkin, Jacob McCarthy, Tom Victor, Alice Grant, and Amelia Gething. Mirren Mack, Rina Mahoney, and Simon Rusell Beale round out the show’s main cast.
D.C. Moore writes “Mary & George,” adapting Benjamin Woolley‘s nonfiction book “The King’s Assassin” for the small screen. Hera Pictures and Sky Studios co-produce the series for Starz. Liza Marshall leads executive producers for the series through Hera Pictures with D.C. Moore, Julianne Moore, and Oliver Hermanus. Hermanus also serves as the show’s lead director. Sam Hoyle serves as executive producer through Sky Studios.
“Mary & George” will debut on Starz as a Starz Original in 2024. Stay tuned for an official release date. Watch a teaser trailer for the upcoming series below.
