Lena Dunham Developing New Netflix Rom-Com Series Starring Megan Stalter & Will Sharpe
Dec 11, 2023
While Lena Dunham seems to have found her footing again as a feature director, with 2022’s dual films “Sharp Stick” and “Catherine Called Birdy,” it seems as if the filmmaker is still not done with TV work. You see, even though she had a lengthy break from feature filmmaking, she’s never really left TV since her hit series “Girls” debuted in 2012. Now, Dunham’s latest project, “Too Much,” sees her leaving the world of HBO and heading to Netflix to test the waters on that streamer.

According to Variety, Lena Dunham is working with her husband, Luis Felber, as co-creators on a new rom-com series, “Too Much,” for Netflix. The series is set to star Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe as potential love interests who are brought together after Stalter’s character experiences a breakup so terrible that she must leave New York City and take a job in London. There she meets Sharpe’s character, and viewers will figure out if these two opposites are truly able to come together and form a love connection. I mean, it’s a rom-com, so what do you think?
As mentioned, Dunham has consistently been working in the TV realm since “Girls” took off more than a decade ago. After that series wrapped up in 2017, she worked on series such as “Camping,” “Industry,” and most recently, 2021’s “Generation.” And though she seems to have dipped her toes back into feature filmmaking, Dunham still wants to keep her TV work going.

Sharpe has most recently been seen in his breakout role in “The White Lotus” Season 2. Stalter is a stand-up comedian who has been showing up in smaller roles in projects such as “Hacks,” “Problemista,” “First Time Female Director,” and most recently, “Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain.”
It’s still too soon to know when we might see “Too Much” arrive on Netflix.
