Nicole Brown and Simpson were married in 1985. Throughout their tumultuous marriage, Brown Simpson contacted the police, claiming Simpson was physically abusive. Simpson was arrested once (in 1989) and pleaded no contest to spousal abuse; Brown Simpson would go on to drop those charges. The two, who shared children Sydney and Justin, divorced in 1992, but reconciled shortly post-divorce before ultimately breaking up in October 1993.
Brown Simpson was murdered on June 12, 1994, alongside her friend Goldman, inside her California home. Simpson quickly became a suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murders following a very famous and nationally televised chase through Los Angeles. In what turned out to be one of the most notable trials in American history, Simpson was acquitted of all charges in 1995. A 1997 civil suit related to the murders of Brown Simpson and Goldman found him liable, and the court ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages to the Goldman family.

News of Simpson’s death made headlines on April, Thursday 11, following an announcement posted on the former NFL star’s X.
“On April 10, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
Following the news, memes and comments surrounding Simpson flooded social media. Goldman’s parents, Kim and Fred Goldman released a statement, noting that the “hope for true accountability has ended” as Simpson maintained his innocence until his death.
“For three decades we tirelessly pursued justice for Ron and Nicole, and despite a civil judgment and his confession in (a book titled ‘If I Did It’), the hope for true accountability has ended. We will continue to advocate for the rights of all victims and survivors, ensuring our voices are heard both within and beyond the courtroom. And despite his death, the mission continues; there’s always more to be done,” the Goldmans shared. “Thank you for keeping our family, and most importantly Ron, in your hearts for the last 30 years.”
