Michelle Yeoh’s New Assassins & Family Secrets Crime Series Hits Netflix In January

Catching up on Netflix’s GeekedWeek with some trailers we missed. Next up is “The Brothers Sun,” a new series starring Michelle Yeoh. And let’s face it, following “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” her Oscar win for that movie, and “Crazy Rich Asians,” Yeoh is really having a moment. It all capitalizes on Netflix in January with this American-Asian crime drama, “The Brother Sun.”

Created by Brad Falchuk, the co-creator of “Glee,” “American Horror Story,” “Scream Queens” and “Pose” with Ryan Murphy and Byron Wu (“The Getaway” 2018), the series is an action-packed thriller, a crime story and a family drama with a wicked sense of humor.
The series kicks off when a mysterious assassin shoots the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad. His eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien), had to then head to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen Sun (Yeoh), and his naive younger brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li) — who has been completely sheltered from the truth of his family until now.
Highdee Kuan, Joon Lee, and Johnny Kou (“Bitter Sweet”) are also part of the main cast.
Here’s the official synopsis:
When the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad is shot by a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien), heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and his naive younger brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li) — who’s been completely sheltered from the truth of his family until now. But as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce, and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all. An action-packed comedy and family drama, THE BROTHERS SUN is created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu. The Brothers Sun comes to Netflix on January 4, 2024.
Also joining the cast in recurring roles are Alice Hewkin (“The Crown,” “Sex Education”), Jon Xue Zhang (“Eternals,” “The Gentleman”), Jenny Yang (“Busy Tonight with Busy Philipps”), Madison Hu (“The Boogeyman”), and Rodney To (“Easter Sunday”).
