‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’ Premieres At Site of Stunt in Rome
Jun 21, 2023
With the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One at last premiering in Rome, not too far from the location used for one of the film’s many high-octane chases, it’s a good time to catch up on the featurette from Paramount, who want audiences to know what they’re in store for in theatres on 14 July: GO BEHIND-THE-SCENES AS TOM CRUISE DRIVES AND DRIFTS ONE-HANDED THROUGH THE STREETS OF ROME!
In case you’ve somehow missed the trailer and are curious about the plot beyond the details seen in this featurette, here’s the official synopsis: In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.
Populating that plot among the cast are the abovementioned Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson and Cruise’s non existent stunt double. The stars attended the premiere at the Piazza di Spagna, alongside Henry Czerny, who spoke on the subject of returning to the series after a full 25 years. Cruise, who’d been promising all throughout filming that he’d see them at the movies, arrived to sign autographs for and thank movie fans before ascending the enormous red-carpet steps. The carpet has been laid over the famous Spanish Steps.
In one interview, Cruise admits that he’s committed to creating spectacles that will ensure the longevity of big screen cinema experiences well into the future, saying: “I will always fight for big theatres, and that kind of experience for everyone. There is a community we are all part of, different cultures, ways of life, we all join together to enjoy cinema.”
Early reactions, fresh from the premiere, are overwhelmingly positive. To celebrate the good news, Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie put concerns at ease: Dead Reckoning Part Two won’t be the final film in the series. They’re already cooking ideas for future missions, which seem to be pretty possible by this point, but exciting nonetheless. You can see Cruise addressing his fans and fellow Mission: Impossible cast and crew in the clip Tweeted by Deadline below.
