Musical Comedy Comeback With Sara Bareilles & Busy Philipps Hits Netflix March 14
Feb 15, 2024
A musical comedy television series created by Meredith Scardino, “Girls5eva,” started life as a Peacock series before getting canceled after a second season. Centering on a one-hit-wonder band from the ’90s who gain a second shot at fame when a young rapper samples their song, the series, fortunately, had enough ride-or-die fans that Netflix deemed it worthy of a season pick-up and bought it from Peacock for season three, which is soon approaching. Call it the show’s biggest comeback so far.

Fans of the series already know “Girls5eva” stars singer/actress Sara Bareilles, Busy Philipps, Paula Pell, and Renée Elise Goldsberry. It’s been off the air for two years but is finally returning in March.
Here’s the season 3 synopsis:
The members of the late ’90s girl group Girls5eva – Dawn, Wickie, Summer, and Gloria – have reunited and recorded a new album, Returnity, so it’s time for the next logical step: a comeback tour. With no plan, tour manager, or venue secured, the ladies pile into a van and hit the great unknown, doing their damnedest to promote their album and get back on top. In the process, Girls5eva will grapple with life on the road, see their relationships tested, play a billionaire’s birthday party, sow their oats, confront parents they believe held them back, cross paths with the biggest pop star on the planet, and question if they really want “the big time” again. Will Girls5eva fast-track their comeback and sell their tour documentary in the process? Or will the road destroy them?
Joining Scardino are fellow executive producers Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), David Miner (3Arts Entertainment), Eric Gurian (Little Stranger, Inc.), and Jeff Richmond. “Girls5eva” is produced for Netflix by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
“Girls5eva” returns for a six-episode run of 30-minute episodes. Season 3 premieres Thursday, March 14, 2024, globally on Netflix, alongside the previously released Seasons 1 & 2. Watch the new trailer below.
