The Karate Kid
franchise revival is expanding with new projects, including potential appearances from past stars.

The first trailer for Cobra Kai Season 6 has arrived, delivering a look at the upcoming finale of the Karate Kid spin-off series and announcing a bumper run of 15 episodes split into three parts to close out the show. Netflix dropped the teaser during its Netflix is a Joke Fest, and already the footage has hyped up fans for the culmination of the series. The first group of episodes will debut on July 18, with a second following on November 28. The final part will arrive in 2025. Check out the teaser below.

The upcoming sixth season may mark the end of the road for Cobra Kai, but the revival of The Karate Kid franchise is continuing with a new movie, which is also released next year. Thanks to Cobra Kai’s popularity, and the several familiar faces that returned from the movies to be part of the show, The Karate Kid has found its way to a whole new audience. This last season promises more rivalries and challenges in the world championships of karate, and is believed to lead directly into next year’s movie release.

The scheduling of the final episodes of Cobra Kai is similar to how Netflix has approached several big shows recently, including Season 4 of Stranger Things. Partly to hold anticipation and potentially build more of an audience in the long term, the separate release dates also allow the streamer to debut part of the season without the entire thing completing post-production. With filming only getting underway last month, it is likely that the majority of the episodes will still be in post-production when Season 6 – Part 1 makes its debut.

Cobra Kai’s Creators Have Had Input in The Karate Kid Sequel

As well as Cobra Kai Season 6 bringing the show to a close, the series creators have had some input on the new movie, which will star Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan. The original announcement that both stars would be appearing in the film together surprised many fans, who were under the assumption that the Chan-led remake was just that, rather than being set in the same universe as the original ’80s movies and Cobra Kai.

Although there is still much to be learned about the upcoming movie, the creators of Cobra Kai, Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg, were revealed to not be part of the production itself, but have had some input on the film. As reported by io9 last year:

“Sony Pictures Television produces Cobra Kai, and since Sony Pictures is making this movie, Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg have known it is happening and have offered assistance when asked. A source close to the project tells io9 the team has seen and given notes on all iterations of the scripts, and Entwistle speaks to them often, which is great news. They know and understand Karate Kid better than anyone, so if they’re supportive of the film, that’s a huge bonus.”

Exactly how much of the world of Cobra Kai becomes a part of the Karate Kid movie is something we will need to wait to find out, but with various rumors persisting of other stars such as Hilary Swank putting in an appearance despite her denials, the franchise is not ready to serve up its last bout just yet.

The Karate Kid
is currently set for release on May 30, 2025. Existing seasons of
Cobra Kai
are available on Netflix ahead of the July 18 premiere of Season 6 – Part 1.
