Netflix’s 2024 War Movie Sets A Viewership Streaming Record For Tyler Perry
Jan 15, 2025
Tyler Perry’s 2024 war movie has achieved a new Netflix viewership record for the filmmaker. As a prolific director, actor, producer, and writer, the current list of Tyler Perry movies on Netflix is extensive. Perry is arguably best known for the Madea franchise, a character Perry created and has portrayed across numerous projects. Perry is also known for his House of Payne series that aired for 11 seasons on TBS, during which Madea made several appearances.
Beyond many of his movies being available to stream on Netflix, Perry has directed several Netflix original movies in recent years. This includes A Madea Homecoming, the drama A Jazzman’s Blues, and the legal thriller Mea Culpa. He did not direct Netflix’s satirical and Academy Award-nominated film Don’t Look Up, but he did star in it as television co-host Jack Bremmer. In terms of television, Perry created and directed the Black Beauty series, which was a streaming hit in 2024. Perry’s Netflix experience continues to expand with his war movie that debuted in late 2024.
Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight Sets A New Record
Its Viewership Has Surpassed His Other Netflix Movies
Perry’s The Six Triple Eight has surpassed an impressive milestone. Starring Kerry Washington and Ebony Obsidian, the movie tells the true and largely unknown story of the all-Black and all-female 6888th battalion that served during World War II. They were given the responsibility of sorting through 17 pieces of backlogged mail, which they accomplished in less than 90 days. The Six Triple Eight’s ending features footage from the real 6888th battalion and its members, including Lena Derriecott Bell King, who had the chance to see the film before she passed away at the age of 100.
