Netflix’s Meet Me Next Christmas Ending, Explained
Nov 13, 2024
In Netflix’s Meet Me Next Christmas, Layla (Christina Milian) meets the man of her dreams, but he isn’t quite who she expected. The movie begins with a predictable meet-cute. Layla’s flight to New York has been canceled on Christmas Eve, but she’s trying to make the best of it. She goes to the airport lounge to wait out the storm and hopefully get on one of the stand-by flights she’s been placed on. While she’s there, she meets a man named James (Kofi Siriboe).
They bond over It’s a Wonderful Life and their shared dream of going to Paris at Christmas. So when James’ flight finally boards, he proposes that next Christmas Eve, they meet at the Pentatonix concert if they’re both single. Layla, who enjoyed their time together but has a boyfriend, gives him a very tentative “maybe” and the movie unfolds from there. But who does Layla end up with: James or someone else? One thing’s for sure, she doesn’t end up with Tanner (Brendan Morgan), the boyfriend she started the movie with.

In Meet Me Next Christmas, by the time next Christmas comes around, Layla is single, but she hasn’t been for long. She and Tanner break up because she catches him cheating on her three days before Christmas. Not only does she catch him, but he’s doing it in her house. Apparently, the maid was over at his place and he wanted to get out of her way. Layla, disgusted and confused, promptly throws both Tanner and his new paramour out, and that’s the end of Layla’s relationship with him.
Despite the fact that her relationship with Tanner lasted for over a year, Layla doesn’t take a lot of time to mourn. Instead, she gets invested in a different scheme: to get tickets to the Pentatonix show so she can meet James from the airport there. The band is her favorite, and while she’d usually have tickets, Tanner wanted to go to Macklemore this year and Layla relented. So she’s stuck looking for tickets for Pentatonix, which are sold out, three days before the concert. Layla’s friend Roxy (Tymika Tafari) tells her about the personal concierge service, Impromptu, she uses at work to get hard-to-find items and Layla is off to get her ticket through them.
Meeting Teddy
When Layla goes to the Impromptu offices, she gets Teddy (Devale Ellis) as her concierge. Teddy’s boss has just told him his reviews for his service are terrible, and he needs to make Layla happy in order for him to get hired there on a permanent basis. Teddy tries to get Layla the tickets inside the office, but that quickly fails, and they’re soon off to the wider city to find other sources. Of course, Teddy tells Layla she can stay behind. After all, getting things for her is part of the service. But she refuses. She’s with him until the end. Teddy isn’t thrilled, but soon they’re going from place to place on a wild goose chase for a Pentatonix ticket.

First, they go to a ticket broker that Teddy knows who ends up being closed. Then they go to a bar where Layla knows a guy who will sell her a ticket, but it ends up being from last year. Next, they go to a rich couple’s penthouse. The husband is willing to give Layla one of their tickets if she’ll get a Chanel bag for his wife. But she ends up giving the bag to a deserving stranger with a sick wife instead. After those strikeouts, the pair spend most of the next day preparing for the Snow Ball, a lip sync contest whose prize is Pentatonix tickets. Though they don’t really know what they’re doing, they kiss after their number and get the crowd on their side.
Who Layla Chooses
Of course, the kiss means more to both Layla and Teddy than either of them was expecting, and although they don’t win the contest, they both want to talk about the kiss. But they’re interrupted before they can get started when Teddy’s cousin, Jordy (Kalen Allen), tells them that Pentatonix, who have been following the saga through Teddy’s direct messages, have given her a ticket. In exchange, they want Teddy to come to their show and be Santa. Roxy takes Layla to get ready while Jordy sends Teddy backstage at the concert.

When Layla gets to the concert, James is there with a dozen roses, but Layla is no longer interested because she has chosen Teddy as her person. Layla gives James a speech about how she is in love with Teddy, not him. Although it’s strange that James came to the exact concert that he’d agreed to meet Layla at, as soon as she runs off in search of Teddy, the truth comes out: his girlfriend, who is definitely not Layla, shows up so they can go to the concert together.
Meanwhile, Teddy makes a grand romantic gesture, sliding down the makeshift house’s chimney that Pentatonix has in their show, changing out of the Santa costume into a tux, and declaring his love for Layla right then and there. Fortunately, Layla confesses to having the same feelings for him, and they kiss while Pentatonix continues on with their concert. It’s hard to say if these two will stay together, but at least for this Christmas — whichever one you happen to see the movie around — they’re a couple. Stream on Netflix.
