‘Neuromancer’ Sci-Fi Drama Series Gets Greenlight From Apple TV+

Feb 28, 2024

Apple TV+ is continuing its foray into acclaimed Sci-Fi adaptations. The streamer already has multiple seasons of “Foundation” and “Silo” in production and is now set to bring William Gibson’s “Neuromancer” to the small screen. The classic 1984 novel is part of the acclaimed “Sprawl” trilogy, which means 1986’s “Count Zero” and 1988’s “Mona Lisa Overdrive” are ripe to continue the journey long-term.

A Hugo Award, Nebula Award, and Philip K. Dick Award winner, Gibson’s novel begins in a future dystopian version of Chiba City, Japan. The protagonist, Henry Dorsett Case, is a low-level hacker who agrees to a shadowy mission for a clandestine mercenary group to repair his damaged nervous system. Teaming up with Molly, a “razor-girl” assassin, the adventure finds Case spanning the globe and includes U.S. government conspiracies and super-powered Artificial intelligence.
The project will be shepherded by Graham Roland (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Dark Winds”) and J.D. Dillard (“Devotion”). Roland will serve as showrunner while Dillard directs at least the pilot episode.
In a statement, the pair remarked, “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+. Since we became friends nearly ten years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. ‘Neuromancer’ has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk’ world.”
No word yet on when this incarnation of “Neuromancer” will go into production.
