New ‘Superman’ Image Has David Corenswet & Rachel Brosnahan in Destroyed Metropolis
May 6, 2025
While fans anxiously await a second trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, a new image has been unveiled that might give longtime DC fans some déjà vu from a bygone era of the franchise. Once upon a time, there was an uproar about the then-controversial third act of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, which featured Metropolis getting heavily destroyed by Zod and his army. It seems Superman will be destroying a bit of the fictional city once again, but probably not on the same destructive scale. However, one thing remains constant in each adaptation — Clark and Lois are always meant to find each other in the rubble.
A 2025 summer movie preview from USA Today revealed a new image from Superman that features David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as their respective characters around some rubble in Metropolis. It seems Lois Lane might be getting a post-fight interview with the super-powered vigilante, but your guess is as good as ours. No matter the case, it appears Metropolis has gotten a beating, and could be the aftermath of that kaiju fight scene in the trailer. You can check out the still below.

Federal Judge Seals the Fate of James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ After Legal Battle
After a lawsuit jeopardized the theatrical release of ‘Superman,’ a federal judge has made a key ruling that seals the movie’s fate.
The upcoming film will shoulder the weight of jumpstarting a shared DC Universe, but there is no other superhero more fitting for the job. Just like Man of Steel before it, Superman will be the first time audiences will be treated to an entirely new vision of the iconic Kryptonian. However, Gunn won’t be telling Ka-El’s origin story for what seems like the hundredth time on the big screen. Instead, Superman will find its titular hero as a widely recognized face, one that may be blamed once again for the partial destruction of the fictional city of Metropolis.
‘Superman’ Star Rachel Brosnahan Discusses Lois Lane-Clark Kent Romance
Warner Bros.
As mentioned, Superman won’t be exploring the origins of the character, and will see the main characters already hitting their stride in their respective careers. In fact, Lois and Clark have already been together for three months at the start of the film, and much of the story revolves around the status and potential future of said relationship. Not unlike real life, the romance between them is not perfect, and it seems Superman finds them at an inflection point in their relationship due to their rising differences. As Rachel Brosnahan put it, “they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship.”
“They’ve been together for about three months, and they’re asking some questions about the future of their relationship. They’re not sure if this is something that was just a really great fling or something that could be forever, and they have really opposite worldviews — and they bump up against each other that way. So, it was a really fun way into a familiar story.”
It’s safe to say that they will likely still be together by the end of Superman, but presenting realistic challenges to the relationship is a refreshing way of retelling the classic romance.
