New Upcoming DC Universe Release Confirmed By James Gunn In Exciting DC Update

Dec 5, 2024

It appears that the DC Universe slate has expanded once again, as James Gunn shares a very exciting update about DC Studios’ future plans. As of this year, Gunn’s DC Universe has finally begun, as Creature Commandos just premiered on Max, making it the first TV show from the new reboot. While several films and series have already been revealed, DC Studios isn’t slowing down any time soon.

During the latest episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Gunn reminded the audience of the process regarding how a project goes forward at DC Studios. However, while sharing this, Gunn also teased that another DC Universe project has now been greenlit, sharing the following:

It happened with another thing that was greenlit last week that I can’t even talk about yet.

What James Gunn’s DC Universe Update Means For The Franchise

Gunn’s latest update signifies that DC Studios is happy with the script for the movie or TV show in question. The mission statement of DC Studios ever since it was launched is that they will only go forward with a project if they are pleased with the screenplay. The bigger question, however, is whether or not it is a DC Universe film or TV show that has been reported but not confirmed, or if it’s a new project altogether for Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters.”

It’s key to remember that a handful of movies and shows have already been reported by the trades that Gunn hasn’t confirmed. That is why the new greenlit project could potentially be the Teen Titans movie, the Deathstroke/Bane film, or even the animated Blue Beetle TV show, which will feature Xolo Maridueña back in the role of Jaime Reyes. Whether Gunn will reveal the title of this new project that has been approved to go forward before the year is over remains to be seen.

Our Take On James Gunn’s DC Universe Project Tease

While time will tell what has been greenlit, it’s exciting to see that DC Studios is avoiding the creative chaos that followed the DC Films division, where projects would sometimes get off the ground prematurely. Rather than announce too many projects at the same time, with only some of them actually happening, DC Studios is taking it one thing at a time, which is what the new DC Universe needs. Hopefully, more updates on Gunn’s DC Universe future plans will be revealed sooner rather than later.

DC Universe The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
