NO WAY HOME Concept Art Reveals an Alternate Take on Who Saves MJ and it’s Not Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man — GeekTyrant

Some new concept art has been revealed for Spider-Man: No Way Home and it reveals an alternate version of how MJ was saved in the film. While it was one of the highlights of the film and a sweet redemptive moment, it wasn’t always going to be Andrew Garfield’s Amazing Spider-Man who saved MJ. Concept art Phil Saunders reveals that MJ was originally going to be rescued by Dr. Strange’s Cloak of Levitation! He shared with the art:”Redemptive moments like MJ’s rescue by [Andrew Garfield’s] [Spider-Man] in [Spider-Man: No Way Home] seem inevitable in retrospect, but in practice, it takes some searching to get there. In an earlier version of the script, [MJ] was dropped to her death, only to be rescued by Dr. Strange’s Cloak of Levitation.”This led to a liberating moment of freedom for MJ as she gets to experience flying for herself, but ultimately we would have missed out on one of the most cathartic beats of the entire Spider-Man series. It was still fun though, to try to capture that feeling of weightlessness in MJ’s pose.”Yeah, this would have been a fun and charming moment, but it definitely wouldn’t have hit as hard as Garfiel’s Spider-Man saving her. The scene, the way it is, plays out perfectly. But, it’s cool to see what could’ve been.
