Nostalgia Reloads With The Craze Of “Awarapan 2”!

Sep 3, 2026

Awarapan 2 (2026): Starring Emraan Hashmi as he reprises his iconic role as the lovelorn hitman, Shivam Pandit
Akkha Bollywood Ek Taraf, Emraan Hashmi Ek Taraf! Brace yourselves as the lovelorn hitman Shivam Pandit (Emraan Hashmi) returns after 19 long years, this time in a vigorous action avatar rather than a lonesome lover. Bollywood recreates nostalgia by bringing out a direct sequel to its 2007 romantic action-crime thriller Awarapan, translated as “Vagrancy”.
Co-written by Bilal Siddiqui, produced by Vishesh Bhatt, and directed by Nitin Kakkar, this sequel titled “Awarapan 2” stars Emraan Hashmi, who reprises his role as the bereaved, vagrant, and daring protagonist Shivam Pandit. It features Disha Patani as the lead actress, along with Bollywood newbie Puran Gabbi as the core antagonist. Awarapan 2 made its theatrical debut on the eve of Indian Independence Day 2026.
Feel The Awarapan of Emraan Hashmi Once Again!

Awarapan 2 (2026) Synopsis: When Heartbreak Transforms Into Power!
Plagued by vagrancy after losing his love, Shivam Pandit (Emraan Hashmi), a heartbroken hitman, returns to confront the criminal underworld with redemption and sacrifice. As conflicts intensify, his endurance is put to a brutal test that will shape his destiny.
Awarapan 2 (2026) Official Trailer: You Have Felt His Pain… Now Feel His Rage!

The Good:
Introducing Puran Gabbi as notorious gangster Zorawar, the core villain in Awarapan 2
Emraan Hashmi isn’t just an “Awara (vagabond)” anymore! In Awarapan 2, he has transitioned into an invincible action hero, powered by rage, pain, and soul, determined to save the day and exact retribution on the bad guys. The gripping factor of this action-crime drama is its ultra-fast-paced narrative, which, as it builds, leaves you with no time to think. Even though the screenplay may appear a bit stretchy at certain initial points, overall it creates an impact.
The action is amplified multifold in Awarapan 2 as compared to its prequel. Its raw, vicious, and thrilling action sequences surpass some of the loudest, most violent, and lethal action dramas. Emraan Hashmi has drastically transformed his protagonistic character. He is now even more lively, aggressive, and determined. The back-to-back action scenes comprise one-on-one combats, prison fights, underworld gang confrontations, and police torture to enhance the excitement of the audience. I have to say, from a romantic crime-thriller, the Awarapan franchise has transitioned into a massy action blaster.
He Is Lonely, But A One-Man Army! Awarapan 2 (2026) Official Teaser:

Presenting Disha Patani as Zorawar’s sister, Zara
Emraan Hashmi brings back nostalgia with his lonesome hitman character. He has stepped into the shoes of the iconic Shivam Pandit, whom the audiences remember even to this day. Let me tell you that it was a total Emraan Hashmi show! Emraan carries out his role with commitment and sincerity. He captivates the audiences with his inner turmoil that ultimately blasts out as hardcore action. He has even undergone a massive physical transformation and packed on quality muscle mass for his shirtless fight scenes.
Disha Patani has secured the role of the female lead in this Awarapan sequel, and she is no longer a decorative Barbie doll like she is used in most films! Her character has a vital essence in this story, coupling romance and thrill as she tries to escape her criminal past. Bollywood newbie Puran Gabbi, as the core physical villain Zorawar, gives a fresh and unique take on his formidable and menacing antagonistic role. The supporting cast has lent prominent support by bringing in unexpected twists in the tale.
Reprising “Tera Mera Rishta Purana” in Awarapan 2

Featuring Shabana Azmi as Zorawar’s crime rival, Nafisa
The makers of Awarapan 2 have cleverly blended flashback scenes from the 2007 prequel in certain instances, showing Emraan Hashmi and Shriya Sharan, who played his lost love, to evoke nostalgic emotions. The heart-wrenching emotions and impactful dialogues do play a major role in this intriguing violent action-thriller. The musical tracks are soothing, melodious, and nostalgic. The terrific background music will give you goosebumps. To add to it, the top-notch and stunning cinematography blends rustic textures of Rajasthan and also transports the audience to the gritty, neon-lit, urban landscapes of Bangkok.
The Bad:
The storyline of Awarapan 2 lacks novelty. The theme of the story is the same as the 2007 prequel’s. It is based on human trafficking, but has been presented in a different style. Because of the repetitive theme, the screenplay may appear predictable to you.
In fact, veteran actress Shabana Azmi is the main villain in this movie as she plays Shivam’s rival gangster and crime lord, Nafisa. However, her calculative and quiet villainous character appears direly unconvincing and forced. I am also not very impressed by the ending. It could have been a lot better and more thrilling to leave a mark. However, upon watching the climax, I can sense yet another sequel coming up.

The Verdict: Once A Disaster, Now A Cult Classic Blockbuster!
Can a flop movie turn into a blockbuster decades later? Well, here’s a live example! When Awarapan was released in 2007, it failed at the Box Office. But as years passed, the aura of this film grew, transforming it into an evergreen romantic action-thriller. Both Millennials and Gen Z got attached to the desolate emotions of the character Shivam Pandit and his vagrancy for his lost love. They started feeling his loneliness, depression, and sacrifices for his deceased love (Shriya Sharan). It’s the reason theaters are now booming with audiences of every age. Both the prequel and its sequel are family-friendly with no vulgar scenes or abusive language.
And I have to say, what a coincidence! In 2007, Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan was released in theaters alongside Sunny Deol’s family-based boxing action-drama Apne. Now, in 2026, Emraan’s Awarapan 2 has made its theatrical debut along with Sunny’s Batwara 1947 on the same day. Is this just a coincidence or some marketing tactic of Bollywood to associate the two superstars Emraan and Sunny? Whatever may be the case, after seeing the responses of the audience, I have to conclude that Emraan has surpassed Sunny when it comes to audience engagement. People have started loving and appreciating Emraan and his acting much more than Sunny. Is the era of the aging action hero Sunny Deol over, or will he come back with a hyped master blaster in the future? We have to wait and see!

Suvinder Vicky as Zorawar’s family henchman, Jaideep
Talking of Awarapan 2, it is not just a film, but a power of the audience’s memory. The real story here is the value of an emotion that the audience still owns. Before watching Awarapan 2, I would suggest that you watch the 2007 prequel first, because this sequel is a continuation of that. Only then would you be able to understand the story better and connect with it.
Awarapan 2‘s intentional recreation of the old-school 2000s-era Bollywood vibe, comprising a brooding hero, tragic romance, hardcore action, and nostalgic music, makes it a cult classic. The film has already crossed INR 20 Crores in collections on its opening day! It’s only a matter of a few days before it crosses its estimated budget of INR 25 to 45 Crores to become a blockbuster!
