Oscars Ceremony Set For March 2, 2025 & Earlier Nominations Reveal

Apr 12, 2024

It appears the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have read the room. The Oscars partners announced key dates for the 2024 Oscars season and made some very important changes. The first is that the 97th Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2025. For those who felt the season was dragging, that’s one week earlier on the calendar than the 2023 and 2024 ceremonies. But wait, there’s more.

The Academy also announced that the Oscar nominations will be revealed on Friday, January 17. This is a major change that allows the organization to keep the voting period between January 8th and 12th, but not conflict with the Sundance Film Festival set for January 23 to February 2. It also is the first time we can ever remember the nominations not being announced on a Tuesday. And if it’s a Friday, perhaps AMPAS can reveal them at a more reasonable hour for Hollywood (we might be begging at this point).
Additionally, the earlier 4 PM PST / 7 PM EST start time that debuted for the ceremony last month will return for 2025. And, now that there are no strike issues, the Governors Awards has returned to its traditional November date. Although this year it will occur on Sunday, November 17.
