Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise the Dancing Clown returns to incite fear in the hearts of horror fans in a chilling, highly-detailed cosplay recreation of a key It movie moment. Stephen King’s terrifying entity returned to the screen in Andy Muschieti’s 2017 adaptation of the author’s 1986 novel, followed by a second part in 2019. In It, the town of Derry, Maine has been plagued by a malevolent shape-shifting entity that stalks and preys upon its young residents, leading to a group of unlikely young heroes taking a stand when they find themselves targeted by the creature.
While Max’s Welcome To Derry television series will explore Pennywise’s reign of terror before the Losers Club formed, user hollymurraymakeup on Instagram has revisited one of the clown’s earlier moments in her It cosplay. Check it out below:
In the video above, the cosplayer captures not only Pennywise’s look from the 2017 movie through impressive and on-point make-up but also matches the entity’s mannerisms and expressions through her acting. Skarsgård faced a difficult task when taking on the role of one of cinema’s most terrifying clowns and following Tim Curry’s portrayal of Pennywise in the 1990 It miniseries. A later addition after production changes led to Will Poulter leaving the role, Skarsgård emphasized the creature’s more inhuman nature, looking to wildlife videos of hyenas and the unpredictable behaviors of his younger sibling to create his portrayal. As such, audiences were quickly left unsettled but captivated by his Pennywise from his first scene.
