Pink Flamingos Everywhere Featured, Reviews Film Threat
Sep 2, 2023
Jordan Vescio’s short film, Pink Flamingos Everywhere, shows the angry break-up of a family through the eyes of a child. The film opens with a 7-year-old Charlie (Lily Jane) peering in on her mother’s (Elaine Alexander) nightly cam girl session. The following morning, Charlie is drawing a flock of plastic pink flamingos in her front yard and laments that her father, James (Daniel Di Amente), didn’t have to go and hopes he returns.
Pink Flamingos Everywhere plays like a short story from the mind of filmmaker Jordan Vescio. When describing her film, Vescio talks about biking on the empty streets during the pandemic and observing a little girl playing quietly in a small sphere of peace, oblivious to the broken world around her.
“…drawing a flock of pink flamingos…and laments that her father…didn’t have to go…”
The seven-minute short wastes very little time capturing the feelings of that experience, drawing poignant comparisons to Charlie’s chaotic home life and the solace she feels among the plastic flamingos in her front yard.
Vescio’s use of a handheld camera and a subtle yet spot-on performance by Lily Jane, effectively brings us into Charlie’s world and allows us to see the breakup of her family through her eyes.
