Plot, Cast, Release Date, and Everything Else We Know

Feb 24, 2023

Humans have come a long way in their two billion-year existence, from monkeys to intelligent humans, from vying for power and land to creating a peaceful and democratic society through modern technology. Nevertheless, as we progress, we lose sight of what provides us with a home: the Earth. Several looming predictions suggest that the planet will be destroyed as a result of catastrophic climate change or perhaps a nuclear war. Still, we humans are unknowingly destroying it little by little.

Extrapolations, an upcoming Apple TV+ series with a star-studded cast, aptly portrays this dilemma. Apparently, the creators wanted to ensure that as many people as possible understood the message sent by the series, so they cast prominent actors such as Tobey Maguire, Kit Harington, David Schwimmer, and others. Extrapolations is an anthology series with eight episodes that explore eight diverse storylines that eventually intersect. After watching the trailer, audiences are admiringly excited about the series as the premise is engaging enough. With that stated, here’s everything we know about Extrapolations.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The upcoming anthology series pulls viewers to the near future, where climate change has caused chaos in people’s daily lives. The trailer depicts a variety of personalities that want to live in a world that is different from Earth since it is changing quicker than the population. Despite possessing better technology that allows people to gather energy from the sun, cure cancer, and even set foot on Mars, an unsolvable cycle of issues appears to be growing on a daily basis.

Many people have accepted their fate, believing that global warming will spell the end of civilization, while others are still working to develop new technologies to help them survive the impending doom. Seeing that all of history’s misfortunes have been brought on by the greed of humans, it’s clear that any progress made by humanity now will only make things worse later on. Is there any other way they can save humankind?

While we expanded on the plot based on the trailer, here’s the official synopsis from Apple TV+.

“Extrapolations” is a bracing drama that introduces a near future where the chaotic effects of climate change have become embedded into our everyday lives. Eight interwoven stories about love, work, faith and family from across the globe will explore the intimate, life-altering choices that must be made when the planet is changing faster than the population. Every story is different, but the fight for our future is universal. And when the fate of humanity is up against a ticking clock, the battle between courage and complacency has never been more urgent. Are we brave enough to become the solution to our own undoing before it’s too late?

Extrapolations, with many renowned actors, throws a harsh truth in front of viewers about what will happen in the future if we continue to ignore the dying Earth. Although it is unlikely, the series may inspire people all across the world to make the world a better place.

Apple TV+

Although the series has a profound message and good production values, the best part of it is the star-studded ensemble. Given that the story represents a series of anthology episodes, there are numerous characters in the spotlight, and here are a few to highlight. Elodie, the trailer’s narrator who debates humanity’s future, is played by Eiza Gonzalez. She is well-known for her appearances in Baby Driver, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, and Godzilla vs. Kong.

Kit Harington appears to play a crucial role in the series as Nick Bilton, who is attempting to build a technology that could save civilization from global warming. He is well recognized for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, as well as his roles in Pompeii, Marvel’s Eternals, and Silent Hill: Revelation. Furthermore, the trailer shows Edward Norton (Fight Club), Judd Hirsch (The Fabelmans), Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard (Inception), and Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) repeatedly, and we may presume they will lead the series in their own episodes.

Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), David Schwimmer (Friends), Sienna Miller (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), and Gemma Chan (Eternals) will all make brief appearances, which is one of the reasons why fans are so excited about the series. Meanwhile, the supporting cast includes Forest Whitaker, Murray Bartlett, Diane Lane, Heather Graham, to name a few.

The series is directed by Scott Z. Burns, who also wrote the script for the first two episodes. He made his directorial debut with Pu-239 in 2006 and has since helmed other critically acclaimed films such as The Bourne Ultimatum, Contagion, Side Effects, and The Report. Diane Ademu-John (The Originals), David Eggers (Away We Go), Dorothy Fortenberry (The 100), Rajiv Joseph (Welcome to Chippendales), Sarah Nolen (Unstoppable), and Bess Wohl (CSI: NY) will each write one episode. The series is produced by David Kirchner, while Sara Miller, Greg O’Bryant, Aavi Haas, and Alan McAlex are co-producers.
