Ride Baby Ride Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Aug 15, 2023

HOLLYSHORTS FILM FESTIVAL 2023 REVIEW! It’s absolute car-nage in writer-director Sofie Somoroff’s horror short, Ride Baby Ride. Celina Bernstein plays a young car mechanic who purchased the car of her dreams, a 1978 Camaro. The car isn’t exactly in the greatest shape, but our heroine is up to the task. The problem is the two dudes she bought it from were, let’s say, creepy as hell. That night, her dream car turns into a nightmare.

“…her dream car turns into a nightmare.”
Running at just over 7 minutes, Ride Baby Ride gets right into the action. Suffice it to say. There’s a terrifying presence in the car that is determined to make our mechanic its next victim. Filmmaker Somoroff finds a good balance between showing us actual scares with off-camera implied moments of horror. The traps and bloody aftermath are excellent, particularly for a low-budget short. All of the short’s success comes from its brilliant sound design.
As our lead, Celina Bernstein is fantastic as the car’s intended victim. We’re looking for realism, authenticity, and plausibility, and she comes through Ride Baby Ride with flying colors.
Ride Baby Ride premieres at the 2023 HollyShorts Film Festival.
