Sadie Sink Reportedly Wanted to Play Jean Grey in MCU’s X-Men Group

Dec 27, 2024

The hunt is on for a new wave of actors to play the X-Men
in the MCU, and although there certainly seems to be potential plans to have both new and old stars of the franchise involved in the cataclysmic Avengers: Secret Wars, a new name has been thrown into the mix about one of the new faces reportedly being considered for the role of Jean Grey. Previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, according to a report from Jeff Sneider, Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink
could be the next in line to play the incredibly powerful character.
Naturally, this kind of rumor should be handled as some kind of wayward multiverse variant of the truth until it is confirmed or denied by Marvel Studios. It is likely to be one of many such rumors to come in the near future as the MCU gears up to welcome the X-Men fully into the fold after several hints and flash appearances. However, it is not the first time that the actress has reportedly been on Kevin Feige’s radar, as a report in 2023 suggested she was in line for a big role in the comic book franchise.
Sink has been on an incredible career climb since her first appearance as Max in the second season of Stranger Things. Having been seen in Netflix’s hit horror trilogy Fear Street, and alongside Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser in The Whale, the actress has become one of the most sought after and versatile young stars in Hollywood, so it is not surprising that Marvel Studios would be looking to recruit her for a major role. However, without there being any confirmation of this, while we would love to see Sink become Jean Grey in the future, for now, we can only wait and watch.
The X-Men Have Been Filtering Into the MCU

Marvel Studios doesn’t always rush their character introductions and the development of certain plotlines – when they did during Bob Chapek’s tenure as Disney CEO…well, we know what happened. Similar to the introduction of the Multiverse concept several years before the franchise fully delved into the other realms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the X-Men have been coming for a long while.
In 2021’s Black Widow, it was suggested that a brief appearance by Ursa Major could have been the first stealthy hint at mutants already being present in the MCU’s reality. Then Ms. Marvel revealed in its finale that Kamala Khan has a mutant gene in her DNA. By the time The Marvels rolled out in late 2023, the post-credits scene featured Lashana Lynch as Binary – who is a variant of Captain Marvel character Maria Rambeau – and the return of Kesley Grammar as the voice of a new CGI version of Beast. Then, of course, there has been the hugely successful animated series X-Men ’97 as well.

Everyone’s favorite mutants are set to make their MCU debut and here’s everything we know about it.

This summer, Deadpool & Wolverine splurged X-Men characters all over the big screen, with Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan coming alongside long-lost characters such as Sabertooth, Toad, and Pyro. While these characters mostly appeared in The Void – the junkyard in between universes introduced in Loki – the sense is that the arrival of the X-Men is imminent, and with the portal on the multiverse set to close in a few years’ time, that is probably not a surprise. How it all plays out will be seen by 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, so until then, let speculation reign.
