James Van Der Beek Reflects on Coming “Nose to Nose” With Death Amid Cancer Battle

Stanley Tucci’s cancer is in remission, but his body is still healing.

In 2021, the Conclave star shared he underwent chemotherapy and radiation after being diagnosed with cancer—when a tumor was found on the base of his tongue in 2017—and years later, he’s still feeling the side effects.

Most recently, the 64-year-old shared that he noticed his fatigue as he was filming the new season of his series Searching for Italy.

“I would be so tired in the afternoon, like completely exhausted by one o’clock,” Stanley said on the March 18 episode of David Tennant Does a Podcast With..“I was like, ‘Something’s wrong with me.’ Finally, when it was all over just before the last one, I had a blood test and I was like, ‘I know something’s f–king wrong with me.’ And my thyroid was non-functioning.”

The Devil Wears Prada star explained, “What happened was because I had radiation six, seven years ago, it burned out my thyroid. So, it’s only just happening now.”
