Summary
Suits: L.A. receives pilot order from NBC, expanding the franchise with new characters and setting. The spinoff will center on Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor in L.A. Production is due to start in March with creator Aaron Korsh on board.
The Suits spinoff, Suits: L.A., is officially going ahead and has been given a pilot order by NBC. Detailed in a report by Deadline, Suits: L.A. will expand the franchise beyond the original series, which premiered on USA Network back in 2011 and ran for nine seasons. Thus, Suits: L.A. will be to Suits what the likes of CSI: Miami and CSI: NY were to the main CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series, introducing different characters in a new setting.
The news of the pilot order also brought with it a synopsis for Suits: L.A., which you can check out below.
“Suits: L.A. is centered on Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.
Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both him and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel, leading Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.”
The Suits spinoff was first announced in October last year, with the original series’ creator, Aaron Korsh, on board as showrunner. None of the stars from the original series are expected to return, but it is possible that, should Suits: L.A. be a success, potential crossovers could happen.
Suits: L.A. will begin production in Vancouver in March, with Victoria Mahoney (Lovecraft Country, The Morning Show) directing the pilot. Korsh will produce the series alongside several executive producers from the original series, including David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein.

The Recent Surge in Popularity for the Original Suits Sparked Conversations About a Spinoff
USA Network
Starring Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Torres, the original Suits series is set in New York City and follows big-time corporate lawyer Harvey Specter and his team, which includes the young and sharp Michael James Ross, who uses his photographic memory to talk his way into a job despite not having a license to practice law.
Suits was a big hit at the time, being nominated for numerous awards, but has since become an even bigger hit in recent months thanks to its release on Netflix. The series topped the Nielsen ratings charts for a record 12 weeks, as well as becoming Netflix’s “most-watched acquired series in a single week,” with this newfound enthusiasm for the legal drama sparking conversations about expanding the franchise with spinoffs.
All nine seasons of Suits are now available to stream on Netflix and Peacock.
