Summary
A new Suits spinoff series titled Suits: Los Angeles is in the works, centered around a group of new characters working at an entertainment firm in L.A. The main character of Suits: Los Angeles is Erica, who aspires to be made Head of Entertainment. Suits: Los Angeles is being viewed as a spinoff similar to CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, suggesting that more Suits spinoffs set elsewhere may be considered.
Following last year’s announcement that a new series of the hit legal drama, Suits, is in the works, things have gone a little quiet. Until now, that is, with journalist Matthew Belloni revealing via his Puck newsletter that the next project in the Suits franchise is currently titled Suits: Los Angeles, and will center on a group of a new characters working at an entertainment firm in L.A.
Alongside these new details, a description of the main character has also now been revealed, with the details sparking comparisons to the original series’ Rachel Elizabeth Zane, played by Meghan Markle. According to the report, the main character of Suits: Los Angeles is named Erica, and she is in her…
“30s, Black, SoCal native, and Harvard law alum. She’s jockeying to be made Head of Entertainment. She’s great at closing clients but struggles elsewhere. Smarter than everyone.”
The newsletter also reveals that Suits: Los Angeles is being viewed as something akin to the likes of CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, in that they were spinoffs of the main series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and set in the same world but followed completely different characters in a new location. This idea could suggest that more Suits spinoffs set elsewhere are also now being considered.
The Suits spinoff was first announced in October last year, with the original series’ creator, Aaron Korsh, on board as showrunner. The series is coming courtesy of Universal Television and NBCUniversal in the wake of the huge popularity that Suits has recently seen on Netflix.

Suits Has Seen a Surge in Popularity Since Landing on Netflix
Running for nine seasons, the original Suits is set in New York City and follows big-time corporate lawyer Harvey Specter and his team, which includes the young and sharp Michael James Ross, who uses his photographic memory to talk his way into a job despite not having a license to practice law. Starring Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Torres, Suits was a big hit at the time, being nominated for numerous awards, but has become an even bigger hit in recent months due to its release on Netflix.
The show saw an immense surge in popularity after landing on the streaming platform last year, and even topped the Nielsen ratings charts for a record 12 weeks, as well as becoming Netflix’s “most-watched acquired series in a single week.” This is what prompted NBCUniversal to put a spinoff into development and could now spark an entire franchise depending on whether the popularity continues with Suits: Los Angeles.
Suits creator Aaron Korsh has since responded to the massive audience numbers for the show on Netflix, saying that even he “underestimated” the show.
“I always thought we were underestimated, but it turns out, even I underestimated Suits. It’s good to be the King.”
All nine seasons of Suits are now available to stream on Netflix and Peacock.
