‘Superman’ Is the Most Anticipated Movie of 2025, According to IMDb

Jan 18, 2025

The most anticipated movie of 2025 (according to IMDb, anyway) has now been revealed…and it’s great news for James Gunn
. According to the well-known movie and television site, the Superman
reboot, which will kickstart the DCU, is the most anticipated movie of the year.

“IMDb fans are counting down the days until James Gunn’s Superman kicks off the first of five planned films in his “Gods and Monsters” arc as part of the DC Universe reboot. The first teaser gave us a taste of an already superhero-filled world with glimpses of Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Green Lantern, and the hero we’re most excited for, Krypto the (goodest boy) Superdog. Shifting a bit from Snyder’s darker take on the Kryptonian, Gunn is promising “a Superman who is about kindness, love and compassion…the best of humanity, even though he is an alien from outer space.” We can definitely get behind that.”

As IMDb points out, fans cannot wait to see what the Guardians of the Galaxy director does with the Man of Steel, and highlights the reveal of a live-action Krypto the Superdog in the recent trailer as a master stroke by the filmmaker. Superman is DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, and is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer. The reboot promises a blend of “epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
What Other Movies Are on the 2025 Most Anticipated List?

Superman stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (For All Mankind), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (The Rookie, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), María Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box) and Neva Howell (Greedy People).

James Gunn’s DC reboot compared to one of the best MCU movies in latest insight.

The rest of the “most anticipated” list for 2025 includes the long-awaited post-apocalyptic horror sequel 28 Years Later at #2, the MCU reboot of the beloved superhero family in The Fantastic Four: First Steps at #3, the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon at #4, and another MCU outing, the team-up movie Thunderbolts*, in at #5.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to dominate the overall list with Captain America: Brave New World coming in at #6, the already heavily criticized live-action remake of the Disney classic Snow White at #7, the dinosaur sequel Jurassic World Rebirth at #8, Jack Black and Jason Momoa’s video game adaptation A Minecraft Movie at #9, and finally Tom Cruise’s action franchise finale Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning landing at #10. While many will no doubt be feeling a little existential at the sheer number of sequels, remakes, and comic book movies, 2025 is nevertheless looking like an exciting year for blockbusters.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is the first movie in Warner Bros.’ rebooted DC Universe to center around the titular comic book hero. It introduces a new version of the Man of Steel after Henry Cavill’s departure from the role, honoring the character’s roots as “the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way.”
