Taylor Sheridan’s Underrated Action Thriller Series Roars to Streaming Success

Mar 17, 2026

It’s now been two years since we last saw anything from the underrated action thriller series created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan, but having finally had some promising word about the new season, the show has now shot up the streaming charts as audiences await an explosive return. Sheridan has become known for creating smash hit small screen franchises from across the neo-Western and crime thriller genres, but his return to the world of spies is by far one of his most highly anticipated projects. Created by Taylor Sheridan, Special Ops: Lioness premiered back in July 2023 and introduced audiences to Oscar-winner Zoe Saldana as Joe McNamara, a CIA agent in charge of the black ops Lioness team. Inspired by a real-life U.S. Military program, the series follows Joe as she attempts to enlist female operatives, known as “Lionesses,” and prevent the next 9/11. Alongside Saldaña, Lioness stars Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, and James Jordan, with Hollywood icons Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman also featuring. While the first season of the action thriller series proved to be divisive among critics, the second outing fared far better, but remains the most underrated show in Sheridan’s repertoire. For now, at least.
‘Lioness’ Won’t Be Underrated Much Longer…

The long-awaited third season of Lioness was finally confirmed in August last year, and in anticipation, the series is shooting up the streaming charts on Paramount+, where it’s joined by several other Sheridan-led shows, such as Landman, the Yellowstone spin-off Y: Marshals, and his latest offering, The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. While we’ve been left with an agonizing wait ever since Lioness Season ended back in 2024, things on Season 3 are finally ramping up. The third season has now been officially given the greenlight by Paramount, Lioness’ latest outing is now nearing the end of filming, with star and Taylor Sheridan favorite James Jordan, who stars as rapid reaction force agent Two Cups, teasing what’s to come in Lioness Season 3, calling it “even bigger” than ever.

Adding to the excitement, star Genesis Rodriguez, who plays Captain Josephina Carrillo in the series, revealed last month that production is “about to finish season three,” and thinks “it comes out later this year. So I guess spoiling without spoiling, she’s obviously back for season three. You see her in the dynamic within the QRF now, and how she fits into the dynamic now. When you saw her, she was kind of this outsider who wasn’t accepted by the QRF, and now she’s a part of the team. And obviously, there is the whole “Crusie situation happening. And that “Crusie” is still cruising!”

With the continued streaming success of Taylor Sheridan, and with Season 3 receiving far more hype than its predecessors so far, don’t expect Lioness to be Taylor Sheridan’s most underrated TV series for too much longer.
