The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons has shared his feelings on reprising his role as Sheldon Cooper in the finale of Young Sheldon. Young Sheldon Release Date September 25, 2017 Seasons 7 Studio Chuck Lorre Productions, Warner Bros. Television Creator Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro
The Big Bang Theory ended its hugely successful 12-year run in 2019, by which time Young Sheldon had already established itself as a worthy successor. Now, the spin-off is ready to wrap up its story with its seventh season, and the show is set to bring things to a close with several cameo appearances, including Parsons and his on-screen wife Mayim Bialik reprising her role as Amy. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Parsons said of his return:
“It was beautiful. It was even more beautiful than I expected it to be. One of the reasons I was excited to do it is because what they wrote is so sweet and I think they worked Mayim and I into that show so beautifully. I hope everyone agrees. But also for us the way that they tape — because they’re a single-camera show and we’re multi-camera — the whole look of the show was a really special experience. To get to go with Mayim, in a world we’re really guests and revisit these characters a little older, just a completely different circumstance.”
Young Sheldon Had to End After Season 7
CBS
While there are many fans who are sorry to see Young Sheldon come to an end, any prequel series that features a young version of a character has a finite lifespan. The original idea of Sheldon as a boy genius passed fairly quickly as its lead star grew up, and now the series finds the character preparing to move to California where he will begin his post-grad studies at Caltech.
For many, the finale of the series needs to have a definite connection to The Big Bang Theory, which is likely where Parsons and Bialik come in. Having provided voiceovers in Young Sheldon, seeing the couple back on screen will certainly help to deliver the kind of finale that fans have hoped for, and Chuck Lorre has previously promised.
Related ‘You Do What Feels Right’: Why Young Sheldon Needed to End According to Producers Young Sheldon’s producers have broken down why the series had to end after its seventh season.
Currently, Lorre is working on a new spin-off series, which will turn the focus onto Georgie and Mandy and find Montana Jordan and Emily Osment reprising their respective roles. While that series is expected to debut later this year, there have also been whispers of a The Big Bang Theory sequel series also being considered by the franchise’s creators.
One thing for certain is that there is certainly no shortage in interest in The Big Bang Theory’s universe, meaning that as long as fans demand it, there are still plenty of avenues to be explored within the world of the Cooper family and their friends.
Young Sheldon
released new episodes on CBS on Thursdays until its one-hour finale on May 16, 2024. Seasons 1-6 of the series are currently streaming on Netflix.
