While the likes of Prime Video and Netflix often excel at delivering action, merging action and horror is not something we see too often. Thankfully, The Bondsman has been met with solid reviews from both critics and audiences alike. The action horror series now stands at a respectable 79% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an even better 80% from audiences on the Popcornmeter.
MovieWeb’s own Greg Archer found a lot to love about The Bondsman, highlighting the dependable charisma of Kevin Bacon and even comparing the action horror series to some of the best in the genre, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Supernatural.

“Kevin Bacon playing a murdered bounty hunter resurrected by the devil and assigned the task of trapping and sending back demons that have escaped from the prison of hell? Sign us up. The Bondsman has the makings of a binge-worthy hit. The offbeat premise may bring to mind Constantine or Spawn, but aside from some questionable tonal shifts and some predictable familial tropes, The Bondsman is still quirky and enjoyable with a bit of edge. Think of it as a kind of latter-day cousin to Buffy the Vampire Slayer by way of Supernatural.”

It has not yet been confirmed whether The Bondsman will return for a second season, but considering this quick success (and the ending of Season 1), here’s hoping Kevin Bacon’s Hub Halloran lives to fight another day.
