‘The Boys’ Spinoff Won’t Recast Chance Perdomo’s Role After Actor’s Tragic Death
May 6, 2024
When it debuted last year, “Gen V” seemingly continued the strong success of “The Boys” franchise on Prime Video. The series quickly was given a Season 2 pickup and everything seemed to be coming up roses for the cast and crew. That all changed tragically, when news broke of actor Chance Perdomo’s death just a couple of months ago. Now, the series has to commence filming on Season 2 with a lot more questions than the producers anticipated. But one thing is for sure–they’re not going to recast Perdomo’s role.

According to a post on social media, the folks behind “Gen V” updated fans about the progress of Season 2, and specifically, how they will be tackling the untimely passing of Perdomo. For those unaware, “Gen V” tells the story of super powered individuals who attend a prestigious college that trains the next generation of heroes. Perdomo was a pivotal member of the ensemble cast, as one of the leads of the series. And with the end of Season 1, it seemed as if Perdomo would have a massive role moving into the new season. Sadly, his passing has left the cast and crew trying to figure out how to continue.
“As we continue to navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo, everyone at ‘Gen V’ is determined to find the best way to pay respect to his memory,” said the social media statement. “We won’t be recasting the role, because no one can replace Chance. Instead, we have been taking the time and space to recraft our season 2 storylines as we begin production in May. We will honor Chance and his legacy this season.”
The way “Gen V” is handling the death of Perdomo is very similar to how Marvel Studios continued with the “Black Panther” franchise in the wake of Chadwick Boseman’s death. Instead of recasting, it appears “Gen V” is going to tackle Perdomo’s absence in a way that will influence the new season. How, exactly, they will do it still remains to be seen.
With production beginning in May and the new season of “The Boys” arriving in June, you have to assume we won’t see “Gen V” arriving anytime before early 2025. It’s clear that Prime Video wants to space out the two series enough to keep the popularity of the franchise humming along.
