As Prime Video’s The Boys returns for a second season, its already star-studded ensemble cast grows even further. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead), has joined the series’ fourth season in a mystery role, and fans can’t wait to see him interact with the titular team of superhero killers. For many, it will mark their first time working with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but for Jack Quaid (Hughie Campbell), Morgan’s appearance in season 4 is just another day in the office, as the pair have already worked on another movie together which is yet to release.
The Boys Release Date July 26, 2019 Seasons 4
Jack Quaid recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss working with Jeffrey Dean Morgan on both The Boys and Nowhere Men (adapted from the Image Comics series of the same name). “It’s like a two-hander. It reminds me of a lot of movies from the ’70s about two unlikely people bonding and doing something together,” Quaid explained. The Boys Season 4 is actually their third time working together, as both Quaid and Morgan both appeared in the 2017 video game adaptation Rampage, starring Dwayne Johnson. Quaid reminisced about working on the film during Morgan’s casting process, saying:
“Jeffrey Dean was someone they were thinking about, and I’m like, ‘I’ve worked with him technically twice”; we’re both in Rampage together from forever ago. I don’t think we ever saw each other on that set, but then he showed up on The Boys, and, god, he is just such a stand-up guy”
The Boys Season 4 Will Introduce Hughie’s Mom
Jeffrey Dean Morgan isn’t the only new actor joining the hit show for its fourth outing. As well as a new ‘supe’, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), who becomes a manipulative ally to Homelander (Anthony Starr), the new season also introduces Hughie’s mom, Daphne, played by Rosemarie DeWitt. The character has been teased in previous seasons, and mentioned by Hughie’s dad, Hugh, (Simon Pegg), but hasn’t been shown on screen yet.

Quaid discussed Daphne’s introduction during the interview. She walked out on Hughie and his father when he was just 6 years old, and Quaid teased that her absence greatly informed the character than fans have fallen in love with, including his love of Billy Joel. “It’s a big reason why he is the way he is: loyal to a fault, doesn’t want to be alone,” Quaid said. Season 4 will also see Daphne and Hugh share some emotionally charged screen time together, and the actor described working with the pair as “some of the more fulfilling work” he’s ever done. Quaid continued:
“Just to watch the two of them work and learn so much from them. We had a blast. We became a weird family. I’m very excited for audiences to see the Campbell family chaos this year because it’s pretty great.”
The Boys sees the superhero-ridden America at breaking point as Homelander’s devout following turns against Starlight’s fans. Season 4 also sees the tides of power shift as the latest trailer teased a new disease which can reportedly kill ‘supes.’
The Boys
Season 4 begins on June 13 on Prime Video.
