The Coronation Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Jan 16, 2024

A young man comes into his own at a New York City drag show in Dhruv Sud’s short film, The Coronation. Jacob (Dash Katz) is a young man living in New Jersey, and he’s lost. At a full dinner table, he feels alone. Tonight’s the night, and he sneaks out of his home and heads off to NYC to see his drag queen friends: Delicious Cocoa (Kyle Louviere), Paris Texas (Blake Marshall), and Saraha Dessert (Zenobia Teague). Seeing that look of longing in his eyes, his friends encourage Jacob to try drag for the first time.

“…that look of longing in his eyes, his friends encourage Jacob to try drag for the first time.”
The Coronation is one of those stories that we can all relate to in the notion that we as people have an innate need to express ourselves. Politically, culturally, and socially, we will always resent having to hide who we are as people, and at some points, it is worth any stigma and backlash we get from those who don’t understand or agree.
Writer/director Dhruv Sud beautifully captures that first time someone enters the world of drag and the community and camaraderie that comes with it, capturing the basic tenets of friendship, community, and support. Dash Katz was cast perfectly for walking us through his character’s arc.
