The Flash Trailer Teases Ben Affleck’s Batman Return

Aug 23, 2023

The latest look at The Flash offers a host of new footage involving Ben Affleck and his Batman return. The newest trailer (which comes courtesy of Twitter user @TauroAldebaran) gives us a major glimpse at what is expected to be Affleck’s main action sequence in The Flash and finds The Dark Knight atop his Batcycle and dispensing justice once again. Check out the latest trailer for The Flash below.

While Affleck is not likely to play a big part in The Flash, the actor has recently declared that his performance in next month’s DCU outing is his best. “Yeah, I did finally figure out how to play that character [Batman], and I nailed it in The Flash,” Affleck said. “For the five minutes I’m there, it’s really great. A lot of it’s just tone. You’ve got to figure out, what’s your version of the person? Who is the guy that fits what you can do? I tried to fit myself into a Batman. And by the way, I like a lot of the stuff we did, especially the first one [Batman v Superman].”

As everyone now knows, The Flash will introduce the DC multiverse to the big screen. Thus, thanks to Barry Allen’s attempt to mess with the timeline, The Flash will not only feature Ben Affleck’s return as Batman, but it will also put Batman and Batman Returns star Michael Keaton back under the cape and cowl after more than 30 years.

The Flash director Andy Muschietti recently revealed how emotional the unexpected comeback has been for Keaton. “When [Keaton] arrived to the set, the Batcave was already finished and it was lit and everything. He stayed like this [eyes wide] for a while. I didn’t want to interrupt him. I just wanted for him to take it in,” the filmmaker said. “Who knows what was going on there? But something was going on there. It was funny because at one point during the scene where we shot him in the full suit, he was like, ‘Can you take a picture? It’s for my grandson.’ It was one of those moments where he really showed something was inside that was very emotional.”

The Flash Races Into Theaters on June 16
Warner Bros.

Worlds will collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.

Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, The Flash sees Justice League star Ezra Miller return to the role of Barry Allen aka The Flash. The rest of the cast includes Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, and Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The Flash is scheduled to be released in the United States on June 16, 2023.
