The Hunger Games stars Jennifer Lawrence and Rachel Zegler meet for the first time in a heartwarming video. Lawrence, an Oscar-winning actress for Silver Linings Playbook, famously played the District 12 tribute-turned-revolutionary hero, Katniss Everdeen, in the Hunger Games film series based on the books by Suzanne Collins. Zegler, a Golden Globe-winning actress for Steven Spielberg’s West Wide Story, makes her debut as the fellow District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird in the upcoming prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, based on the book of the same name.
Now, ahead of the Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes release date on November 17, Zegler and Lawrence finally met for the first time in a new video. Check it out below:
Shared to Zegler’s social media, the heartwarming video shows her and Lawrence meeting each other and posing for pictures at the Dior spring/summer show at Paris Fashion Week. In the post’s caption, Zegler endearingly referred to Lawrence as “a mother to many. a mother to Me.”
How Jennifer Lawrence & Rachel Zegler’s Hunger Games Characters Are Different
Though the two talented actors behind the Hunger Games characters are closely associated with one another, their protagonists are actually quite different from one another. In fact, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes director Francis Lawrence, who also helmed Catching Fire and Mockingjay Part 1 & 2, has called Lucy Gray the “anti-Katniss,” illustrating how different the two characters actually are. The main difference between them, as the director sees it, is that Katniss is an introverted survivor who is almost “asexual,” while Lucy Gray “wears her sexuality on her sleeve” and is a performer who loves crowds.

While Katniss is famous for her archery skills, Lucy Gray is less of a traditional fighter. Instead, her talents are as a singer. Lucy Gray is a member of the traveling musician group called the Covey, and she showcases her beautiful voice singing the rebel ballad, “The Hanging Tree,” in the new Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes trailer. Though Katniss and Lucy Gray are both heroines from District 12 who are portrayed by equally talented actors, there are many differences between the two Hunger Games protagonists that make each of them distinct characters in their own stories.
