CINEQUEST FILM FESTIVAL 2023 REVIEW! The short film is an unmixed pleasure. You can watch 15-20 visions of cinema, all in the space of 2 hours. With director Jessica Liu and writer Anat Eshel’s Tomorrow, we witness a screwball comedy version of such visual pleasure.
Joanne (Lowam Ayasu) has reservations concerning her on-again, off-again relationship with Brad (Emilio Garcia-Sanchez). While the sex is wonderful and wild, Brad has great issues committing to a single woman. Then there’s a twist, which I shall not spoil here. Suffice it to say, the 5 minutes you will spend considering Brad and Joanne’s relationship is utterly delightful.
“Joanne has reservations concerning her on-again, off-again relationship…”
I had such a blast with this short. Credit must be granted to Eshel. This is the sort of film that requires a beautifully written screenplay that hits the point and is effective in its quirkiness. The script does it all wonderfully well. Liu directs very capably, and I would love to see an Eshel-written, Liu-directed screwball fantasy feature happen.
Tomorrow is a whimsically bonkers sort of short film. It’s got a great punchline and is worth the 5-minute runtime.
Tomorrow screened at 2023 Cinequest Film Festival.

Over 2 Years Later, Hulu’s Historical Romance Feels Like a Completely New Show
In 2023, Hulu quietly released The Artful Dodger over the holiday season. The series presented itself as an inventive twist on Charles Dickens’ Victorian masterpiece, Oliver Twist. But rather than focusing on Dickens’ titular orphan, the series took the eponymous…

Mickey Haller Faces the Ultimate Test in His Own Murder Trial
There’s an old legal adage that says, “A man who represents himself has a fool for a client,” but not every man is Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo). If you’ve watched the previous three seasons of the Netflix series The Lincoln…
