Wednesday Season 2 to Begin Filming in Spring, Will Move Production to Ireland
Nov 25, 2023
Summary
“Wednesday,” Netflix’s most popular English-language series, is set to restart production in spring and move filming locations from Romania to Ireland. The series, produced by MGM Television, has a track record of switching filming locations after the first season, much like “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” “Wednesday” has become a massive hit, accumulating over 1.7 billion hours of views and breaking streaming records, with the second season expected to focus more on horror elements and potentially introduce more Addams family members.
Wednesday is the most popular English-language series to ever come out of Netflix, and with the SAG-AFTRA strike now over, the show is looking to restart production in the spring, and switch filming locations from Romania to Ireland. According to a recent report by Deadline, Wednesday season two is tentatively scheduled to begin production in April 2024, and along with the spring start date, the show will also move from Romania to Ireland in a move that could see a massive boom for Irish tourism. Having been renewed for a second season back in January, Wednesday provided a boost to Romania’s economy, with tourists flocking to visit the set of the highly popular show.
Produced by MGM Television, which is owned by Amazon MGM Studios, this wouldn’t be the first time a series under their umbrella switched filming locations after its first season. The same situation occurred with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which moved from New Zealand in season one, to the UK for season two.
While details are still being finalized for the new season of Wednesday, including casting, getting the series back up and running is a high priority for Netflix.

Wednesday Follows Wednesday Addams’ years as a student, when she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents. Directed by Tim Burton. Release Date 2022-00-00 Cast Jenna Ortega, Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie Genres Comedy, Family, Fantasy Seasons 1 Studio MGM Television, Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, Glickmania, Netflix
Originally debuting on November 23rd, 2022, the eight-episode first season told the tale of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) as she’s expelled from one school, only to be enrolled in another by way of Nevermore Academy, a private school for outcasts. Her defiant nature and cold demeanor makes it difficult for her to find friends, but when she realizes she’s inherited psychic abilities from her mother, the series becomes a mystery akin to Scooby-Doo.
Breaking several streaming records, Wednesday racked up an impressive 341 million hours viewed in its first week, becoming a Netflix sensation. Since then, the series has accumulated more than 1.7 billion hours in total views, making it the most-watched English-language Netflix show in history, with Stranger Things season four, and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story rounding out the top three.
Created by Al Gough and Miles Millar, with Tim Burton holding an executive producer credit, we don’t know any details yet regarding the plot of Wednesday’s second season, but Gough and Millar have both hinted that we could see more Addams family members appear in the series. Star Jenna Ortega, who is taking on a producer role in the new season, has also shed some light on the next season, saying it will focus more on the horror elements of the show, rather than the teen romance.
Along with Ortega, season one of Wednesday also featured Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, and Christina Ricci, with Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role of Morticia Addams, and Luis Guzmán as Gomez. Viewers are eagerly anticipating who could show up next in the new season, with fan-favorite Cousin Itt the front-runner to make an appearance. Originally created by Charles Addams, there are any number of quirky characters that could appear, and even some new additions that have yet to be created.
