Will Poulter Would Return to the MCU as Adam Warlock If Asked
Mar 28, 2025
Adam Warlock is a pretty big deal in the world of Marvel Comics, but he appears unlikely to be quite the same formidable character in the MCU. Having made his debut in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
as a somewhat childish and adolescent version of the powerful cosmic being, it looks like his future in the franchise is not exactly guaranteed, as actor Will Poulter
recently expressed his desire to reprise the role again but suggested that he has not yet been contacted about doing so.
Adam Warlock was originally teased in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 back in 2017, but it would be six years before he would finally make his first appearance in the MCU. Poulter played a very different take on the character than many fans of the character’s comic book appearances were expecting. Having been pulled out of his creation process before being “ready,” Adam is not the fully-formed version of the character – something that proved divisive as you would expect.

How Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Wasted Adam Warlock
The classic comics character was sorely underused in his debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – but will Adam have a bigger role in the future?
However, that reaction has not put Poulter off wanting to return again in the future, although he has currently not been contacted about that happening. Speaking to Comicbook, Poulter said:
“Oh, dude, I’d love it. I had so much fun playing my character, and so, yeah, if they come calling, I’m definitely picking up.”
Has Adam Warlock Been Ruined For the Future?
Walt Disney Pictures
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is based on the stories and characters of Marvel Comics. Some people, though, don’t quite understand the part that says “based on” or “adapted from” when watching movies produced by Marvel Studios. They expect that what transpires on screen should be an exact replication of some of Marvel’s biggest stories, and characters should not change gender, purpose, or appearance in any way.
Naturally, that doesn’t happen. Characters are updated, some are changed to suit a particular storyline, and others are cut from the major roles they play in their comic book appearances. That is true of Adam Warlock, who played an important role in several “Infinity” story arcs in the comics, but had not been introduced as a character by the time Avengers: Infinity War rolled out in 2018.
His role in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise also makes things a little murkier for his future. Previously, every aspect of the Guardians’ appearances was orchestrated by James Gunn. Now he will not be returning to helm any more movies for Marvel Studios thanks to his role as joint-CEO of DC Studios over at Warner Bros. Discovery, there is a question mark over what that means for the characters he brought to life in the MCU.
It has already been hinted that Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star Lord will return to the franchise, and the idea that the likes of Rocket, Groot, and the rest of the new Guardians team teased at the end of the third movie will not be seen again, seems a little hard to swallow. This means that Poulter’s Adam Warlock could still return for more adventures in the MCU, but much of how that will look is likely to be decided by the culmination of the Multiverse Saga and what parts of the MCU survive Avengers: Secret Wars.
