Woody Reunites With Buzz & Friends To Face Off Against Technology In Toy Story 5 Trailer

Feb 20, 2026

Come in, Star Command, the trailer for Toy Story 5 has finally arrived. The upcoming Toy Story 5 is the sixth theatrical installment (including the 2022 spinoff movie Lightyear) in the iconic Pixar animated franchise about toys that come to life when their owners aren’t looking. It is set to feature multiple returning cast members, including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, and Tony Hale as Forky. Pixar has now unveiled the first official trailer for Toy Story 5, exactly four months ahead of its theatrical debut on June 19. The video kicks off with the toys’ new owner Bonnie playing with them, vividly imagining them solving a murder mystery at Forky’s wedding. However, she quickly loses interest when she gets a new tablet device called Lilypad (Greta Lee). As Bonnie becomes obsessed with Lilypad, the returning Toy Story characters square off against the interloper, feeling both threatened by the new competition and worried about Bonnie feeling isolated and unable to make friends. Jessie then checks in with Woody, who is still part of the team trying to rescue abandoned toys in the outside world. This spurs a newly balding Woody to reunite with his old friends for an adventure that includes wrestling with Lilypad, clinging to the back bumper of a moving car, and Buzz leading multiple alternate versions of himself. Check out the trailer below:

With the Toy Story 5 trailer leaning in on the toys feeling threatened by obsolescence, it seems like the latest installment in the franchise will have the highest stakes yet. However, there is no indication that the movie is intended to be the final installment in the franchise, as there was for 2019’s Toy Story 4 during that movie’s pre-release rollout. As Woody’s return in the new trailer reveals, the Toy Story movies are willing to walk back storylines that seem conclusive, like Woody leaving behind the rest of his friends in order to join Bo Peep (Annie Potts) and the other “lost toys.” Therefore, even if the movie seems to end with an emotional goodbye, it is possible that a potential Toy Story 6 could be in the works before long.

This likely ultimately depends on Toy Story 5 performing well at the box office and following in the footsteps of the previous two installments, which both grossed more than $1 billion. However, the impending reunion between Woody, Jessie, and Buzz that is shown in the trailer could be a major draw for longtime viewers.
