‘1923’ Star Brandon Sklenar Confident He Would “Crush” Playing Batman in the DCU

Feb 24, 2025

A popular Batman fancasting choice is attempting to manifest his donning the iconic cape and cowl in reality, with Yellowstone spin-off 1923 star Brandon Sklenar

assuring anyone who’ll listen (ideally James Gunn) that he would “crush” playing The Dark Knight in the DCU. Speaking with @TheMoviePodcast, Sklenar addressed the idea of starring as Batman in the reboot, The Brave and the Bold

, revealing that playing the comic book character has been a long-held dream of his.

“Batman’s been my favourite comic book since I was a child and it’s secretly been my forever dream to be Batman That’s not something you want to say too much.

I started seeing all this fan art and was like, ‘Oh, damn, I like this. This kinda makes sense. It makes a lot of sense.’ It also kind of parallels to Spencer Dutton. Like, there’s a lot of parallels between these types of men. I think I would crush that role and I’d love to do it if it ever happens. I’d gladly do it.”

No doubt hoping that confidence will win him a meeting with DCU heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, Sklenar, who is also known for roles in the likes of Emily the Criminal, Vice, and It Ends with Us, clearly has a passion and a desire to play Batman in the DCU is evident. But, despite his insistence that he would “crush” the role, will it really happen?
David Corenswet Was a Popular Fancasting Choice for Superman… And Now He’s Superman

While fancasting doesn’t often come true, there is one recent example that could put some wind in Brandon Sklenar’s sails: Superman star David Corenswet. The Hollywood and Twisters star was a fan-favorite for the role of the Man of Steel for some time, with the actor himself having said on numerous occasions that playing Clark Kent was a dream of his. Sound familiar?

Batman’s Fate in the DCU Revealed Once and for All

‘The Brave and the Bold’ director Andy Muschietti knows a few details about the future of Robert Pattinson in the DCU.

Currently, we have no idea who will star as Batman in the rebooted DCU. While various well-known superheroes are all set to share the screen with Superman later this year, all we have seen of Batman so far is an animated silhouette in the Max series Creature Commandos. However, we do know that Batman is part of the plan, with James Gunn having previously revealed that the project is titled The Brave and the Bold.
Set to be directed by It and The Flash director Andy Muschietti, The Brave and the Bold will introduce audiences to another version of the DC icon alongside Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. The DCU movie will bring Damian Wayne’s version of Robin into the fray, with the movie adding a father/son dynamic between Bruce and Damian that should bring something fresh to the Batman franchise for general audiences. But, will Brand Sklenar be the actor chosen to lead this new start for the character? Only time will tell.
