The Kang Dynasty Writer Cannot Wait to Take a ‘Big Swing’ at the ‘Biggest Movie of All Time’

Jul 4, 2023

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness will continue to shape the MCU in the upcoming Avengers sequel, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. And he cannot wait to take a big swing. Speaking with Discussing Film, Loveness, who is best known for the likes of Rick and Morty and Miracle Workers, still cannot believe he has been given the chance to pen the scripts for such major blockbusters and is eager to write what he calls “the biggest movie of all time.”

“But l really think it’s a goofy fun movie and I cannot believe that I got to make it. And now I get a swing at the bat at the biggest movie of all time with the best actor in the world as the best villain in comics. I’m just going to give it a hell of a shot, man. I’m really going to run at it.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which was released last month to a…mixed response, introduces the next big bad of the MCU: Jonathan Majors’ Kang. Dragged into the quantum realm, Scott Lang his extended family come face-to-face with Kang the Conqueror, one of Kang’s many variants, with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty expected to find the newest iteration of the superhero team coming up against a whole host of Kangs.

While it seems that Kang the Conqueror is defeated come the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Loveness’ words certainly suggest that he will be back for more alongside all his maniacal variants.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Will Handoff to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
Marvel Studios

While details of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty remain largely under wraps, (of course, we can turn to the comics for some idea of what will occur), Loveness revealed that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania does act as a major handoff to the sequel, and the sequel alone, rather than setting up any other Marvel outings.

“The ending of the movie is our touchpoint of leaving on the “what now?” phase. Scott doesn’t know if he won or lost. Is Kang still out there? He’s got this dread hanging over him now. To me, that’s probably the only handoff that this movie has. It’s going to set the stage for whatever happens with Kang. I just tried to write the movie and not worry too much about how it’s going to connect to something like Blade 4 or something.”

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to be released on May 2, 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will come as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the likes of The Fantastic Four, Avengers: Secret Wars, and Deadpool threequel Deadpool 3 also part of the same chapter.

For now, we still have Phase 5 to enjoy. Beginning with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Phase 5 will consist of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade on the big screen, as well as Secret Invasion, Loki, What If…?, Ironheart, Echo, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and Daredevil: Born Again on the small screen.
