James Gunn’s DC Studios Reported To Already Have 25 Projects in Development
Aug 2, 2023
James Gunn has made it clear that plenty more DC projects are already in the works at DC Studios that have yet to be revealed. A new report has reportedly confirmed exactly how extensive the new slate of DC projects is, and it is almost Marvel-esque in the sheer volume. While there are plenty of fan theories about what some of the yet-to-be-announced projects coming soon could be, Jeff Sneider has been telling The Hot Mic what he believes is coming to the DCU.
According to Sneider, the ten announced projects are just a small fraction of the 25 that are reportedly being worked on by the brand right now. Although there is no real information about how far into development some of these projects are, Sneider note that as well as the already “known” Lobo movie, James Gunn’s DCU is building to a Superman vs. The Authority movie as its first big event movie. Of course, with none of Sneider’s sources being official, there is very little more than that being discussed at this time.
Superman vs. The Authority would certainly make a lot of sense given the list of projects that Gunn and Peter Safran Gunn and Peter Safran have already announced as the first wave of the DCU’s Chapter One, entitled “Gods & Monsters.” As part of the first wave announcement, Gunn revealed that the first movie released under the new DCU banner would be Superman: Legacy, and this would be followed soon after by The Authority. Other projects already listed for release in the next few years are The Brave and The Bold, Swamp Thing, and Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, and the TV shows Waller, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and Lanterns.

Could James Gunn Be the One to Bring the MCU and DCU Together on Screen?
The Direct
Like many franchises, the worlds of the DCU and MCU are full of crossover potential, but could that include crossovers into each other’s universe? According to James Gunn, it is a real possibility in the future, but certainly not for a long while. While discussing the idea of doing a Marvel vs. DC event, Gunn commented:
“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC]. Who knows? That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”
Gunn has spoken previously about the idea of seeing a huge crossover event play out on screen between the worlds of the two comic book giants, but the idea has not exactly enthused him. When commenting a couple of years ago that he had “casually talked to the powers that be,” Gunn went on to say that “just constantly seeing crossovers and mashups is less enchanting to me than a strong story.” However, based on some of the titles that have been revealed in the new DCU, it is clear that Gunn isn’t afraid to delve deep into DC’s lesser-known characters while also including the biggest heroes the franchise has to offer.
