Summary
EFX Collectibles has released a screen-accurate replica of Dark Rey’s switchblade lightsaber from “The Rise of Skywalker” for $1,599. The hinged double-bladed lightsaber is a unique variant in the “Star Wars” galaxy, previously wielded by Jedi Temple Guards and rogue Jedi Pong Krell. It’s unclear why Dark Rey used this lightsaber, but it could be possible that Rey Skywalker will update her yellow-bladed lightsaber in her upcoming New Jedi Order movie.
Star Wars has released a new replica of Dark Rey’s switchblade lightsaber. Briefly appearing in The Rise of Skywalker while searching the ruins of the second Death Star, Rey Skywalker was faced with a version of herself who had seemingly been corrupted by the dark side. Wearing a black-hooded robe and sporting sharpened teeth, Dark Rey’s look was made complete with a red and very distinct double-bladed lightsaber.
Now, EFX Collectibles has made a screen-accurate replica of Dark Rey’s lightsaber as it appeared in The Rise of Skywalker. This includes its hinged switchblade feature making Dark Rey’s weapon one of the more unique lightsaber variants in the galaxy far, far away. A gallery of images of the new lightsaber replica can be viewed below:
Currently available for purchase for $1,599.00, the Dark Rey lightsaber replica comes with a hardwood base able to display the blade in both forms and a certificate of authenticity confirming its status as one of only 500 replicas made by EFX as an officially licensed 1:1 Star Wars replica prop.

Dark Rey’s Switchblade Lightsaber Is Unique – Will We Ever See Another?
The hinged double-bladed lightsaber is very unique in the Star Wars galaxy. During Clone Wars, the only known Jedi to wield this type of lightsaber were members of the Jedi Temple Guard as well as the rogue Jedi Pong Krell. Likewise, the Jedi Wayseeker Orla Jareni from the High Republic Era also wielded a “switchblade lightsaber” with striking blades colored white. As such, it’s a very rare variant, able to be wielded both in its collapsed and extended forms.
While there was no definitive reason why Dark Rey wielded a hinged double-bladed lightsaber while the real Jedi never did in the sequel trilogy, perhaps Rey Skywalker will have updated her yellow-bladed lightsaber in her upcoming New Jedi Order movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. After all, wielding a double-bladed lightsaber in any form would make sense considering Rey’s proficiency with her staff as a scavenger on Jakku. Rey also wielded a double-bladed lightsaber in the original script for The Rise of Skywalker. At any rate, Dark Rey’s switchblade saber would certainly be an impressive addition to any Star Wars fan’s lightsaber collection.
