Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Deleted Scene Reveals the Fate of the High Evolutionary

Sep 13, 2023

A newly released deleted scene from the recent Marvel outing, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, reveals the fate of Chukwudi Iwuji’s supervillain, the High Evolutionary. Released courtesy of IGN (and shared to social media by Twitter user @UpToTASK), the unfinished scene finds the tables turned as Rocket Raccoon locks the villain in a cage of his own. Check out the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 deleted scene below.

As well as revealing that yes, the High Evolutionary is indeed still alive and now living as he once made so many live – encaged – the deleted scene also shows Sean Gunn’s character Kraglin welcoming Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock into the new iteration of the superhero team the Guardians of the Galaxy. A line-up that was revealed during the post-credits scene, with Rocket, Groot, Kraglin, Cosmo, Adam, Phyla, and Blurp setting off to save the universe.

Following the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, many questioned the fate of the High Evolutionary, and while director James Gunn has since revealed that he survived, the scene shows exactly what that survival means, and suggests that the big bad could return to the MCU later on down the line.

This deleted scene, titled Knowhere After the Battle, is reportedly one of eight deleted scenes that will feature on the home release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is scheduled to be released on Digital on July 7, followed by 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on August 1.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Has Been a Critical and Commercial Success for Marvel
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 picks up with our beloved band of misfits, who are now looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features an ensemble cast that includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley and Cooper as Rocket. The sequel also adds several major Marvel characters to the fray, including Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, a powerful artificial being created by the Sovereign and a character that fans have been waiting a while to see in live action.

Amid a mixed response to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comic book movies of late, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been another big success for the studio. Much like its predecessors, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been met with critical acclaim and grossed over $838 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 2023.
